50th Anniversary of Title IX

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Saints Athletics took a look back on the history of what is likely St. Lawrence’s first women’s athletic team. The determination of early basketball teams, nearly 80 years before the passage of Title IX, set in motion a rich and resilient tradition of women’s sports on campus.  Learn more about Saints Athletics history and Title IX.

Global Classrooms 

St. Lawrence students are eager to expand their understanding of people, places, and perspectives—especially through our off-campus study programs. During the 2021-2022 academic year, Laurentians called places like the United Kingdom, Denmark, Kenya, or Spain their home for a semester, immersing themselves in local culture, traditions, and even workplaces. The President's Office, Academic Affairs, and Student Life sent a message to the community on Monday, Oct. 25, providing  updates on test results, announcing the University's operating status has changed to Green (low risk), sharing information about local and regional public health conditions, and providing guidance on when proof of vaccination is required for public indoor events. Haunting Herring-Cole: A Remote Learner's Love Letter to Campus 

While studying remotely during the 2020-21 academic year, Hannah Rutkowski '22 found herself imagining what it would be like to reside in one of St. Lawrence's historic buildings as the notorious ghost of Herring-Cole Hall. 

Saints Teams Secure Liberty League Playoff Spots; Fall Sports Continue

Saints Field Hockey defeated Union College 6-2 on Sunday, securing a spot in the Liberty League playoffs while Saints Volleyball swept Union College 3-0 on Saturday to qualify for the Liberty League Tournament for the second straight season. The wins continued with Women's Soccer defeating Skidmore College 2-1 on the road while Men’s Soccer defeated Skidmore College 3-2 at home on Saturday. On Friday, Women's Hockey swept RIT 3-0 at home while Volleyball beat Skidmore College 3-0 on the road. Throughout the weekend, several members of the men's and women's swimming and diving teams emerged victorious in their individual races during their respective season openers against Skidmore College. Last week, Esports beat Moravian University 2 - 0 and Concord University 3-0 while women’s soccer defeated SUNY Canton 6-0.

Purple Week

As part of this year's Purple Week, The Advocates and other student advocacy groups organized powerful events on campus to raise awareness and show support for domestic and sexual violence survivors. On Tuesday Oct. 19, students came together for a candlelight vigil on the Brush Family Quad after listening to survivors courageously speak as part of “Take Back the Night.”

The President's Office, Academic Affairs, and Student Life sent a message to the community on Friday, Sept. 17, announcing updates to the campus operating status (Orange Phase A) and the Campus Operating Status framework. Read the message. 

Virtual Organ Concert: Music for High Holy Days - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur
Samuel Adler and Herman Berlinski, two Jewish immigrants to the United States, have produced a large body of organ compositions.  Organist Sondra Goldsmith Proctor performs a small portion of their music for the High Holy Days - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Watch the concert.

Last week, Esports' Overwatch team opened their season against Northeastern College and New Haven University while the field hockey team matched up against Hamilton College. In their Friday night lights game, the football team defeated Morrisville State College 27 - 14. On Saturday, the men’s soccer team secured a 1-0 win against SUNY Potsdam at home, while the women’s soccer team tied against RPI in their Liberty League opener on the road.

The volleyball team defeated Utica College and Elmira College at the Oswego Invitational, while Lillian Sullivan '23 and Catherine Gamble '23 led the women's tennis team with first-round wins in the singles draw on Saturday at the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament at William Smith College. The men's tennis team had two pairs win their semifinal match of the "A" Doubles consolation at the Dutchman Invitational hosted by Union College on Sunday afternoon. Men’s golf competed in the Williams College Fall Invitational, while women’s golf competed in the George Phinney Classic invitational at Middlebury. Visit SaintsAthletics.com for up-to-date news and scores.

Our students’ creativity knows no bounds, which was evident at Friday’s Club and Organization Fair!
