Funding

Global Studies majors seeking financial support for their research have a number of opportunities available to them on a competitive basis.  Any student interested in pursuing such opportunities should consult with their advisor.

The Kahrs Award is funded by the Fred H. Kahrs ’59 Endowment and designed specifically to fund research leading to the Global Studies senior project (SYE).  Proposals are solicited twice per year.

Students applying for the Kahrs Award are strongly encouraged to consider applying for Travel Enrichment Grants and/or Travel Research Grants administered by the Center for International and Intercultural Studies

Finally, St. Lawrence offers two additional types of fellowship that can potentially be used to assist students preparing for or carrying out their SYE research:

  • SLU Fellowships support faculty-mentored student research during the summer.
  • The Tanner Fellowship "is intended to encourage students to enlarge their capacities to make a positive and creative mark on the world by enabling them to design and pursue educational experiences not otherwise available to them."

For more information, see the Research and Experiential Learning Opportunities page on the SLU website.
