Academics Opportunities
Our Center for the Environment is built on strong partnerships with programs that extend from our campus in Canton to the peaks of the Adirondack Mountains and classrooms around the globe.
Academic Opportunities
Majors and Minors
Our Center for the Environment encourages all students, regardless of academic interest, to dig deeper into environmental issues. Pursue majors like conservation biology or environmental studies, or explore and combine courses across academic departments to develop a new passion, discover an untapped talent, or find an exciting, unexpected path. Where will your next academic adventure take you?
Environmental Literacy Courses
You can choose from more than 70 courses across many disciplines to understand the consequences of human impact on natural systems.
As an Environmental Scholar, you’ll be immersed in the CFE as early as your first year on campus. You'll work alongside the Executive Director as you explore environmental and sustainability coursework, programs, and off-campus opportunities.
Adirondack Semester
Not everyone has the Adirondack Park in their backyard. As part of the Adirondack Semester, you'll live off the grid in a remote yurt village, forage for food, cook meals, enjoy the wilderness, and take classes like nature writing and environmental ethics.
Nature Up North
This community-based organization connects people to the North Country environment through citizen scientist projects and offers internships and volunteer opportunities for students.
Kenya Semester Program
Coordinated by our Center for International and Intercultural Studies, our 50-year-old Kenya Semester Program gives you the chance to explore the culture, environment, and development of East Africa while living and studying on our home base in the suburbs of Nairobi.
3:2 Partnership with Duke University
You'll complete three years of study at St. Lawrence and two years at the prestigious Nicholas School of the Environment, earning a bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence and a professional master’s degree from Duke.
