Check out the latest exhibit in the Global Studies Art Gallery in the Global Dialogue Center (84 Park Street). "Plantation Past, Present, Futures..." opened on Wednesday April 16 and features artwork and critical reflections from students in Dr. G's GS 359: Art, Activism, Environment course. Throughout the semester, the class drew upon transdisciplinary global studies frameworks to better understand the ways that plantation logics pervade our world. Students used art and visual methods as a way to intervene in our plantation present; the various pieces featured here invite us to confront the pervasiveness of "the plantation" and its multiple derivatives and products so that we might imagine and work towards alternative futures.
In addition, students in Dr. G's GS 302: Theories of Cultural Studies experimented with zine-making to explore, unpack and apply critical theoretical frameworks. Check out some of their amazing zines in our GS Zine Library!
