May College is an annual, two-day professional development program for St. Lawrence University faculty and staff. The 2026 program, Cultivating Learning, Belonging, and Well-Being, explores how course design, inclusive teaching practices, and sustainable approaches to academic work support both student success and faculty and staff well-being.

May College 2026 invites faculty and staff to examine how intentional teaching practices can strengthen student learning while also supporting well-being in academic work. Through interactive workshops and collaborative sessions, participants will explore how course design, inclusive pedagogy, and clear instructional practices contribute to effective, sustainable teaching.

The program will feature Cate Denial, Bright Distinguished Professor of American History and Director of the Bright Institute at Knox College. A nationally recognized scholar of teaching and learning, Denial will lead sessions focused on practical, research-informed strategies for creating welcoming, well-structured, and sustainable learning environments.

Sessions throughout the two-day program will address topics such as syllabus design, inclusive course planning, and approaches to maintaining balance and sustainability in academic work. Participants will have opportunities to reflect on their teaching practices, exchange ideas with colleagues, and develop strategies that support clarity, inclusion, and long-term effectiveness.

As part of May College, the Faculty Development Committee will recognize the recipients of the St. Lawrence Excellence in Teaching Awards. These awards honor faculty whose teaching is impactful, inspiring, and innovative. Up to four recipients are selected annually.

May College is open to all St. Lawrence University faculty and staff. Participants are encouraged to attend sessions that align with their interests and professional goals.
