Join us this month for: Making Play Political with Dr. Valerie LehrProfessor of Gender and Sexuality Studies and Political Science

There is significant evidence that children spend less time playing that they have in the past.  Understanding why this is the case and the consequences is perhaps obviously an issue that can be approached from multiple disciplinary perspectives, from psychology, to education, to sociology, to history.  It might be less clear how and why this might concern political science or political theory.  Yet, Dr. Val Lehr has come to see this as an issue that has consequences for a number of social and political movements, including those concerned with increasing human freedom and democracy, those concerned with environmental issues, and those concerned by the challenges that many people face in meeting care needs.  In this presentation, Dr. Lehr will develop these connections and suggest that fostering play and spaces to play is an issue that democratic societies should care about.
