You will die at twenty (2019)

Sudan’s official submission to the Academy Awards and winner of the Lion of the Future Award for Best Debut Feature at the Venice Film Festival, You Will Die at Twenty is a visually sumptuous “coming-of-death” fable.
At her son's naming ceremony, a sheikh predicts that Sakina’s child, Muzamil, will die at the age of twenty. Haunted by this prophecy, Sakina becomes obsessively protective. Muzamil, growing up under the shadow of death, eventually begins to question his fate as he encounters new friends, ideas, and experiences.
This remarkable debut is a moving meditation on destiny, agency, and what it means to live in the present.

The Arabic Club sponsors this screening, which will feature an introduction by Professor Gisele El Khoury.
