In honor of the diversity of films from around the world and in homage to the indispensable Cinema 10 series of Potsdam, the Department of World Languages, Cultures & Media, and the Language Resource Center are pleased to present:
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse
Locked away in an asylum for a decade, the criminal mastermind Dr. Mabuse (Rudolf Klein-Rogge) pens a manifesto for a future empire of crime. When his sinister writings begin to play out in real life, Berlin’s star detective, Inspector Lohmann (Otto Wernicke), must piece together the case.
A sequel to Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler, Fritz Lang’s The Testament of Dr. Mabuse reunites the director with the character that launched his career. Lang boldly put Nazi slogans in the mouth of a madman, prompting Nazi censors to ban the film for “endangering public order.” This landmark thriller remains a classic, presented here in the original, uncut director’s version.
