Saints Earn Accolades and Secure Shutout WinsMen’s Cross Country—Junior Nick Lyndaker was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and Liberty League Performer of the Week following running to a first-place finish at the Hamilton Short Course Invitational. He had a personal best time in the 5k run, winning the race by 21 seconds. Football—The Saints took home the Hoffman Cup with a victory over Norwich Friday, bringing the Cup back to the North Country by a 20-9 final score. The win marked the fourth-straight Hoffman Cup win for the Saints and improved their record to 1-1 for the season. Women’s Soccer—Darcie McDonough was named Liberty League Co-Defensive Performer of the Week after leading the Saints to a 2-0 record. The senior netminder stopped two shots in a 1-0 victory at SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, then on Saturday did the same, stopping both shots she faced in a 4-0 win over Oswego State. Women’s Cross Country—First-year Avery Blanchard was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week for her performance at Hamilton, running for a time of 14:59 and a fifth-place finish in the 4k race. Women’s Hockey—Senior forward and alternate captain Abby Hustler was named a Preseason All-ECAC Hockey selection, as announced by the league office on Monday morning. Hustler led the Scarlet and Brown with 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points on the season. She tallied 12 power-play goals and five game-winners. Faculty and Staff Honored, Awarded Promotions at Annual Convocation CeremonyTo mark the beginning of a new academic year and celebrate the contributions of all members of the St. Lawrence community, the University honored several employees with awards for their outstanding service and recognized a number of faculty who earned tenure and promotions during their annual Convocation event. The ceremony was held outside in the Herring-Cole Grove on Wednesday, August 25. |

Laurentians Inspire: Alaska Boat Captain Casts a Net on SustainabilityThis summer Jessica Normandeau ’15 set sail on her newest business venture: captain of a 32-foot vessel in Bristol Bay, Alaska. With grueling 18-hour workdays and a lot of creative problem solving, she’s part of a small percentage of women sustainably harvesting fish from the world’s largest, completely wild, sockeye salmon run. |

Saints Track & Field Teams Win Ice Broken OpenIt was a great weekend to be a Saint as the men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their respective outdoor seasons by winning the Ice Broken Open against Plattsburgh, Herkimer, Potsdam, Mohawk Valley, and Clarkson. The home wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's tennis dominating RIT 8-1, women's tennis shutting out RIT 9-0, and men's lacrosse defeating St. John Fisher 20-11 after securing a 12-10 victory over Ithaca. During the IHSA Zone 2 Regionals, Harper Eskey '26 earned High Point Rider honors while several riders qualified for regionals and zones. Last week, Saints Field Hockey defeated Utica College on the road 4-3 while Men’s Soccer competed against SUNY Cortland at home. On Thursday, Women’s Ice Hockey hit the ice against No. 9/10 Penn State, securing a season-opening win on Thursday and an overtime tie on Friday. On Friday, the volleyball team competed against Ithaca College in a Liberty League match-up. Several Saints athletics teams celebrated home Laurentian Weekend wins. Football defeated Castleton University 55-3 at Leckonby Stadium on Saturday while Men’s Soccer beat Union College in their Liberty League opener at Sandy MacAllaster Field and Women's Soccer defeated Union College on the road. Alli Sibold ’23 won the Hoffmann Invitational 6K and the women’s cross country team took the team title while Timothy Boyce ’24 won the Hoffmann Invitational and led the men’s team to a team victory at home. The Saturday competitions continued with Women's Tennis going 21-3 in their matches as they hosted SUNY Geneseo and RIT in the St. Lawrence University Invitational at the Sammis Tennis Courts. Men’s Golf hit the links at Paul Smith College while Volleyball competed against RIT and Saints Field Hockey competed against Skidmore College at home. As part of National Suicide Prevention Month, our new Office for Wellness Education and several other campus departments and groups invited students to take part in the national “The World Needs You Here” Week. Students were encouraged to write appreciation notes for themselves or to a friend, get trained to support those struggling with suicidal thoughts, participate in reflections with University Chaplain Shaun Whitehead, unwind at Friday’s Doggy De-stress, or run in last Saturday’s Laurentian 5K. We shared an important message on Instagram about the week ahead earlier last week.
