    Phil Duggan ’15 earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 2021, thanks to the St. Lawrence University-Cornell Law School Scholarship. While interviewing for his first jobs in the legal field, he found himself returning to his multifaceted St. Lawrence experiences as evidence of his ability to embrace challenges, adapt to new environments, and learn on the fly.

    Saints Dominate Spring Matchups

    Saints men’s lacrosse defeated Vassarr 19-7 after beating Middlebury 18-11 in an on-the-road matchup that landed Mark Mahoney ’22 a number six spot on ESPN’s Sports Center Top 10 Sports Plays in April. Women’s lacrosse dominated RPI 17-3 to move into second place in the Liberty Leagues standings while women’s tennis secured a 7-2 win over RIT and men’s tennis beat Union 5-4. Softball defeated Clarkson 8-6 while several members of the men's and women's track and field teams secured top performances during the Upstate Alternative Meet in Cortland and the Smashing Saints Esports team ended their season in the Sweet 16 of the ECAC playoffs. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    St. Lawrence Announces $500,000 Gift to Fund the Ken Okoth Black American Music Project

    Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, St. Lawrence will honor the life and impact of a beloved Laurentian with the Ken Okoth ’01 Black American Music Project, which celebrates Black music history through visual displays, lectures, seminars, and live performances.

    Saints Dominate in Florida; Conclude Winter Seasons

    Several Saints are dominating the competition in on-the-road matchups in Florida. Women’s tennis defeated Coe College 6-3 as softball beat Macalester 1-0 and New Paltz 8-3, and baseball swept Colby-Sawyer 2-1 and 8-3. Women’s lacrosse is on a winning streak after defeating Oswego 18-7 at home and Saint Michael’s 13-6 on the road while men’s lacrosse dominated SUNY Geneseo 20-6 and Nazareth 16-7. Timmy Boyce ’25 set a programmatic indoor record in the 800m at the NCAA DIII Track and Field Championships and the Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association announced that Lucy Morgan ’23 is a finalist for the Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year Award. The Liberty League named squash players Lewis Anderson '25 Performer of the Year and Anannya Morey '25 Co-Rookie of the Year while tapping several squash players for the All-Liberty League Team and naming Scott Denne and Jamie Oakley Coaching Staff of the Year. The Skating Saints concluded its season after falling to Quinnipiac in the ECAC Quarterfinals while Alpine skiing’s Ava Mattson ’22 and Nordic skiing’s Brian Beyerbach '23 and Emma Strack '25 wrapped up their seasons at the NCAA Championships in Utah.     Peterson '24, Team USA Win Gold in Mixed Relay Race

    Sydney Peterson '24 and Team U.S.A. won its first-ever mixed relay gold medal to close out the cross-country competition at the Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022. This is the third Paralympic medal for Sydney, who claimed bronze in women's free technique standing and silver in women's long-distance classical technique during her Paralympic Winter Games debut.     In accordance with public health recommendations, a COVID-19 vaccination booster is required for all St. Lawrence University students and employees within 30 days of becoming eligible.     Former Saints Women's Lacrosse and Field Hockey Coach to be Honored with IWLCA Hall of Fame Induction

    Longtime St. Lawrence women's lacrosse and field hockey coach Dotty Hall will be enshrined in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame in November. Hall was one of the most successful coaches in the history of Saints women's athletics with a combined win total of 306 victories in field hockey and lacrosse. Read her story

    Saints Head to Liberty League Championships; Swim Program Records Shattered

    The men’s and women’s track and field teams are headed to the Liberty League Championships after winning the SLU Open against SUNY Plattsburgh, Utica, Vermont, Mohawk Valley, and SUNY Potsdam last weekend. During the Liberty League Championships in Ithaca, the women's swimming and diving team shattered program records in the 800 freestyle relay and 4x400 freestyle as Maggie Wenger '24 set a new 100 freestyle program record. Over the weekend, men’s basketball defeated Union 81-62 to secure a first-round playoff game after topping Skidmore 65-64 and women’s basketball beat Skidmore 76-45 to secure their 20th win of the season. Men’s ice hockey defeated Cornell 2-1 in an overtime contest on Friday while women’s ice hockey skated to a 3-3 tie with Harvard last week and men’s tennis beat SUNY Oneonta 8-1 on Saturday.     Saints to Compete in Liberty League Matchups

    It was a great weekend to be a Saint! On Saturday, Saints men's basketball closed out the regular season with a 71-63 win over Union, the team's sixth straight victory, after topping Skidmore 65-55 on Friday. Both the men's and women's basketball teams will head to the Liberty League Semi-Finals this weekend. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints men's and women's tennis teams securing a pair of 9-0 wins over SUNY Oneonta at home on Saturday while men's hockey beat Cornell 1-0 on the road and women's hockey beat Princeton 3-1 at home after defeating Quinnipiac 4-1 on Friday.  During the CSA Team Nationals on Sunday, women's squash beat Haverford College 8-1 and several members of the Saints swimming and diving and track and field teams secured individual wins to qualify for league championships.     Saints Skate to Victory; Seasons Continue

    The Scarlet and Brown dominated the competition on Friday as men's hockey defeated Princeton 6-2 in Appleton Arena and women's hockey secured a 7-3 win over Dartmouth on the road. The weekend wins for the Saints continued with men's basketball securing a 69-65 overtime win over Ithaca on Saturday after defeating RPI 56-53 on Friday while men's squash beat MIT 5-4. Men's tennis defeated Daemen University 7-2 at home as the Saints men's track and field DMR team took first place at the Fastrack Invitational.     Saints Wrap Spring Seasons, Head to Liberty Leagues

    It was a great weekend to rep the Scarlet and Brown! Saints men's and women's track and field teams each won the Intercollegiate Athletics Twilight Meet on Saturday to wrap up the regular season before heading to the league championships. The victories for the Saints continued with women's tennis heading to the semi-finals after beating Ithaca 5-4,  and women's lacrosse set to compete in the first round of the Liberty League tournament after defeating RIT 11-10  after dominating Nazareth 21-8 last week. Softball defeated Union 5-4  while baseball topped Clarkson 13-11 and 2-0 after defeating SUNY Plattsburgh 9-1 last week. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Laurentians Around the Globe

    In celebration of 56 years of one of St. Lawrence's signature study abroad programs in Spain, Laurentians recently embarked on a two-week journey to explore past and new culinary traditions throughout Segovia, Salamanca, Barcelona, Malaga, Granada, and Madrid.     Honor Society Induction Ceremony Celebrates First-Generation Scholars

    Forty-six students, 16 faculty and staff, and two alumni became members of Alpha Alpha Alpha (Tri-Alpha), the national honor society recognizing first-generation students for academic excellence, at an April 28 induction ceremony. St. Lawrence established the Eta Nu chapter of Tri-Alpha this year to strengthen its commitment to improving experiences and advancing outcomes of first-generation college students.

    Five Alumni to Receive 2023 Awards from Alumni Executive Council

    St. Lawrence University’s Alumni Executive Council has announced that William W. Dennett '68, M'74, Jeremy T. Smith '73 and Erica Silver Dahl '93 will receive Alumni Citations for their dedication and service to the Laurentian Community, while Christopher L. Bunting ’93 and Francis Chachu Ganya ’96 will receive the Sol Feinstone Award for Humanitarian Service.

    For nearly a decade, Nature Up North has connected people to the environment through citizen scientist projects and outdoor adventures. By engaging in hands-on activities and research, the community-based program, funded by support from Laurentians and foundations, has helped many discover the importance of protecting the wild things and places that call the North Country, "home."

    Scarlet, Brown, and Liberty League Champions!

    What a weekend to be a Saint! On Friday, the ninth-ranked men's rowing team's Varsity 8 claimed the 2023 Liberty League title for the first time since the program began in 1999. On Saturday, the team went on to earn their second title at the New York State Championships and remain undefeated. The title wins for the Scarlet and Brown didn't stop there. Saints women's track and field's Haylei Coolican '23 and Alli Sibold '24 became Liberty League champs as Coolican won the 3,000-meter and Sibold won the 1,500 meters. Saints baseball secured 9-2 and 7-6 wins over Union in the Liberty League Crossover series and men's lacrosse is headed to the Liberty League Semi-finals after defeating Clarkson 10-9 last week. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Folk Fest 2023

    This year’s annual Folk Fest featured live music, lawn games, and local vendors. St. Lawrence University’s Environmental Action Organization continued the Earth Day celebrations with a full day of activities for Earth Fest rangin from a campus clean-up and raffles to a DIY potted plants event and so much more.     St. Lawrence University is remembering former President Walter Lawrence (Lawry) Gulick as a dedicated architect of a more inclusive and diverse Laurentian community—served by the rigorous liberal arts education he championed. Gulick died January 28, 2023 at the age of 95.

    Geology Students Embark on Global Adventure to Examine Volcanoes

    Last month, geology majors embarked on a global adventure during a nine-day volcanology excursion to Tenerife, Canary Islands. Students, joined by St. Lawrence geology faculty, including Nagel-Myers and Sarah Brehm, navigated world-class geologic sites and explored historic and pre-historic volcanic systems, guided by experts from GeoTenerife.

    On February 1 the Mathematics, Computer Science, and Statistics (MCSS) department held its annual Majors Dinner for the first time in four years. Approximately 75 students and faculty gathered to discuss upcoming conferences, internship and job opportunities, and departmental events.

    Brush Gallery Digitizes Historic Haudenosaunee Charts

    A series of Haudenosaunee educational charts from St. Lawrence University’s Owen D. Young Library Special Collections was recently digitized by staff from the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery. The charts, part of the Arthur and Shirley Einhorn Iroquois Collection MSS No. 196, were a gift to the University from the Einhorn family in 2015.

    Saints Basketball Dominates Home Court Matchups; Seasons Continue

    It was a winning weekend for the Saints! Women's basketball secured a 68-57 win over RIT on Saturday after defeating William Smith 82-59 on Friday and dominating Clarkson 74-47 at home last week while Saints men's basketball beat RIT 88-71 on Saturday after securing a 73-67 win over Hobart on Friday.  The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's hockey shutting out Brown 6-0 on the road while women's hockey skated to a 3-2 overtime win over Cornell at home. Saints squash wrapped up its 2023 Liberty League Championships on home court this weekend after the women's team secured three sets of 8-0 wins over Vassar, Bard, and Denison before falling to William Smith in the championship match on Sunday while the men's team topped Bard 8-1 and Hobart 5-4  before falling to Rochester on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.
