    Coding Connections: How a Professor and His Student Built a Tech Talent Pipeline

    When Geoff Baum ’10 joined Veoci, a tech startup based in New Haven, Connecticut, as one of its first employees, he had no idea he’d eventually help turn it into a hotspot for fellow St. Lawrence University graduates. What started as a scrappy seven-person company has grown into a thriving operation of more than 100 employees around the country—and nearly half of its development team hails from St. Lawrence.

    Wind Ensemble Concert: A Musical Journey to Places Near and Far and into The Land of Oz

    - Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall The program features music by Aaron Copland, Percy Grainger, John Phillip Sousa, Dmitri Shostakovich, and Eric Whitacre. Also featured will be “Selections from Wicked” by Stephen Schwartz and “Arabian Dances” by Brian Balmages. The event is free, open to the public, and available via livestream.

    The Laurentian Singers Concerts

    - Pickens Hall, Heuvelton, NY, and Gunnison Chapel The Laurentian Singers are pleased to present two performances. The first will be held on Saturday, December 7, at 7 p.m. in Pickens Hall, Heuvelton. The second will take place Sunday, December 8, at 7 p.m. in Gunnison Chapel and via livestream. Both events are free and open to the public.

    Saints Compete on the National Stage and Secure Wins

    • Women’s Lacrosse: Tom Ryan was named St. Lawrence’s Head Women's Lacrosse Coach on December 2. Prior to his selection as head coach, Ryan was a valued member of the St. Lawrence athletic department for 11 years, serving as an assistant men's coach since 2013 and an assistant women's coach since 2015. As the men's assistant, he worked as the offensive and recruiting coordinator for the Saints. He was named the IMLCA Division III Assistant Coach of the Year in 2016 after helping the men's lacrosse team reach the semifinal round of the NCAA Championship. His coaching consistently resulted in a nationally ranked team, and he attended over 12 national tournaments per year, leading to 20 All-Americans. As an assistant to the women's program, he served in an interim role during multiple coach transitions.
    • Women’s Basketball: Junior Jackie Malley hit seven three-pointers en route to a season-high 21 points as St. Lawrence claimed the title game of the Westfield Gas and Electric Tip-Off Tournament 70-64 against the Westfield State Owls last week. The Saints' undefeated record remains intact as they finish November 6-0, despite enduring a tough test against the tournament hosts. This remains the Saints' best start since 2021-22, when the Scarlet and Brown were Liberty League finalists.
    • Men’s Basketball: Since suffering a 59-37 setback loss against Clarkson two weeks ago, the men’s basketball team has rebounded nicely with back-to-back wins, moving them to a 3-1 overall record heading into December. Junior Adam Dudzinski is coming off a strong week, leading the team with 24 points in their win over Geneseo. He also paced the Saints with 21 points against Plattsburgh.
    • Women’s Hockey: Junior Emma-Sofie Nordström was named MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week for the period ending Nov. 25. Nordström went 1-0-1 in goal for the Scarlet and Brown on the road, recording 70 saves, a 0.96 GAA, and a .972 save percentage. The Saints defeated Yale 2-1 on Friday, before tying Brown 1-1 to close out the weekend. Her season goals against and save percentage both rank seventh nationally, while she ranks third in the ECAC for save percentage.
    • Cross-Country: A trio of Saints cross country runners competed on the national stage two weekends ago at the NCAA cross country championship. In the men’s eight-kilometer race, Junior Nick Lyndaker placed 59th overall for the Saints. First-year Avery Blanchard and sophomore McKenna Allardi both competed in the women’s six-kilometer run for the first time. Blanchard placed 206th, while Allardi finished 278th.

    “Digital Storytelling for the Environment” Grant Awarded

    The Digital Scholarship team at St. Lawrence University has been awarded a $12K grant from the Northern New York Library Network (NNLYN) to leverage digital storytelling tools and techniques to help students and faculty construct powerful environmental narratives with real-world impacts. The grant supports the purchase of professional production equipment intended for outdoor use, such as light-shaping tools, field-recording microphones, and macro lenses, as well as the creation of new training workshops and related web resources on the fundamentals of environmental storytelling.

    DHPSNY Caring for Photograph Collections Workshop

    - Frost-Ferguson Room, Owen D. Young Library Room 204 DHPSNY workshops promote interactive learning, networking, and collaboration. Offered free of cost to New York institutions, these programs address the needs of professionals and volunteers at institutions that manage unique library research materials and historical records, including libraries, archives, and museums. Presented throughout the state, workshops emphasize hands-on learning exercises and provide supplemental resources. See below for descriptions and registration for upcoming workshops.

Brush Art Gallery Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Tibetan Buddhist Chenrezig Sand Mandala Healing and Compassion in Challenging Times, on display at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery, the lecture and discussions will be held Monday, October 21 and Tuesday October 22.

    Got Spirit! 16th Gospel Music Workshop and Concert

    - Gulick Theatre Led by Rev. Shaun Whitehead, this multi-day event will feature guest workshop leader, Dr. Mario Vaughn of the Chicago Mass Choir! Beginning October 23 through 26, 2024 in Gulick Theatre, the free Gospel Workshop will welcome singers of all levels and persons of any/all/no spiritual background to learn by singing. The St. Lawrence and surrounding community are encouraged to attend!

    • Women’s Hockey—On the heels of two wins over No. 15 Mercyhurst, graduate student Anna Segedi was named the ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week, presented by Bluebird Hotels, while junior goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordström was awarded MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week honors. Segedi tallied a goal and an assist, and her goal on Saturday was the game-winner and her 100th career point in Scarlet and Brown. Nordström completed the weekend sweep in goal for the Saints, including a shutout 3-0 win on Friday, as she made 45 saves on the weekend.
    • Rowing—A pair of Saints’ first-place finishes highlighted the weekend at the Head of the Geneseo for the men’s and women’s rowing teams, with the men’s Novice 8 cruising to first with a time of 19:47.300. The women's Novice 8 coxed by first-year Eden Keeney took first place, besting St. John Fisher, with a time of 21:48.932.
    • Men’s Golf—Senior Ben Scholes shot one under par and claimed the individual title, leading men’s golf to a first-place finish at the Skidmore Fall Invitational at the Saratoga Spa State Park Golf Course this weekend. Scholes shot a 71 at the par-72 course to come away with the individual title.
    • Men’s Hockey—Senior captain Mason Waite scored with 12.6 seconds in regulation and senior Tomáš Mazura put on the finishing touches scoring in overtime to lift men’s hockey to a 4-3 win over Niagara on Friday night, leading the Saints to a split of their weekend. They are now 3-1-0 on the season.
    • Men’s Soccer—Sophomore Baker Diaz scored his second goal in as many games to send men's soccer to a 1-0 win over RIT Saturday. Diaz earned Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week as a result of his outing. St. Lawrence improved to 5-2-3 overall and 2-0-2 in Liberty League play.
    • Men’s Cross Country—First-year Kyle Gaffney was men’s cross country’s Liberty League rookie of the week, after performing as the top-performing first-year for St. Lawrence at their dual meet against Clarkson. Sophomore Henry Hagen took first in the event for the Scarlet and Brown.
