A Weekend of Winning!

The Women's Soccer Team kicked off the weekend with a home game victory against Vassar College, winning 1-0. They continued their winning streak on Saturday, triumphing over Bard College with a score of 2-0. The Men's Soccer Team also secured a 5-0 victory against Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. To cap off the weekend, the Women's Hockey Team secured a 3-0 win against the University of Vermont

Partial Eclipse Over Campus

During the mid-semester break, St. Lawrence University Eclipse Center and students from the Society of Physics hosted a Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing on the Java Quad. During this extraordinary spectacle, the moon partially covers the sun's disk, resulting in temporary dimming of sunlight and brightness in its path. It was an afternoon of cosmic celebration, with telescopes, lawn games, music, and snacks, and of course, seeing the entire partial eclipse—they even identified a sunspot! Saints Wrap Up Seasons; Earn Athletic and Academic Accolades

After breaking program records and securing several podium finishes this year, Timothy Boyce '25 and Emma Palumbo '25 capped off their respective rookie seasons by securing 14th and 15th place finishes at the NCAA Track and Field Championship Meet. In recognition of her exemplary leadership on and off the field, Saints Women's Lacrosse Captain and ROTC Commander Abigail Eberle '22 was named a 2022 Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award recipient while Isabel Silvia '22 earned IQCLA Third-Team All-American honors, making her the 17th All-American in the history of the Saints Women's Lacrosse program. Five members of the men's lacrosse team were awarded USILA-Dynamic Division II All-American honors while Nicholas Butler '22 was named to All-Region 3 Third Team, and several Saints were named to the Academic All-District team for their academic and athletics achievements. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

This Week in Athletics!

Men’s lacrosse qualified for the NCAA tournament via an at-large bid after completing their season as Liberty League semifinalists. The Saints had their best start in program history at 11-0 and finished the season 14-2 with a share of the regular season title with a 6-1 league record. They will make their way back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022 and the third time since 2017, and are headed to Wesleyan to face Plymouth State on Saturday. 

For men’s lacrosse major awards, Judge Murphy '24 was named the Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year, while Daniel Mahoney '27 was named the Rookie of the Year. 7 Saints earned All-League accolades and head coach Mike Mahoney '93 earned Coach of the Year honors.

Women’s lacrosse defender Haley Sundstrom '25 earned Second-Team All-Liberty League honors, while midfielder Neve Ley '25 earned Honorable Mention accolades for the women's lacrosse team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.

After earning their 14th straight Intercollegic Horse Shows Competition (IHSA) Regional title, the riding team advanced to nationals as a team this past week, finishing fourth overall. After earning Reserve Champion honors at Zones, the Saints competed against the 16 best programs, representing the 353 competing schools.

In the men’s outdoor track and field season, Zach Jaworski '25, Nick Lyndaker '26 and Patrick Russell '26 had all-conference performances at the outdoor track and field championships this past weekend. St. Lawrence finished fifth overall. The Saints now head to regionals with many athletes qualified.

Women’s track and field saw Emma Palumbo '25 and Alli Sibold '24 earn all-Liberty League honors at the outdoor track and field championship, with Alli getting an honorable mention in the 1500 meter race and Emma taking second-team honors in the 3000 meter steeplechase. The Saints will also head to regionals beginning next week.

Saints Riding Named Reserve Champs; Spring Sports Continue

The riding team is headed to the IHSA Nationals after being named the Reserve Champions at the IHSA Zone II Finals on Saturday. Following the show, St. Lawrence University President Kathryn Morris presented the Saints with the Reserve Champion trophy. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints Softball defeating Union (7-6, 6-3) after dominating Wells (21-0, 25-0) and SUNY Plattsburgh (11-4) while Saints Baseball secured wins over RIT (6-5) and SUNY Canton (11-7). Men’s lacrosse defeated Skidmore 22-4 after topping SUNY Plattsburgh 25-5 and women’s lacrosse defeated Skidmore 21-13, Union 16-12, and SUNY Canton 20-11 while women’s tennis beat William Smith 7-2. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Student Talent Takes the Stage

St. Lawrence student talent was on full display during University Theatre's recent production of  "30 Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind (30 Neo-Futurist Plays in 60 Minutes)!” Each performance featured 60 small plays performed in random order and incorporating audience interaction, ensuring no performance was ever exactly the same. On Friday, Sept. 2, President Morris sent a message to the community sharing news of the passing of devoted Laurentian, Richard “Dick” Hewitt, an avid outdoorsman who worked in Facilities Operations at St. Lawrence. Read the message.

Saints Fall Sports in Full Swing

The fall sports season is well underway as Saints women's soccer shut out the competition this weekend with a 1-0 win over Colby-Sawyer and a 7-0 win over SUNY Potsdam. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued as Emma Palumbo '25 and Timmy Boyce '25 each won the Cardinal Classic 5K during the men's and women's cross country meet in Plattsburgh, and Jimmy King '26 claimed the individual title for Saints men's golf while the 'A' team secured a win to open the season. First-year Molly Jespersen secured the 'B' Flight Singles title during the opening weekend for the women's tennis team while Jenny L'Hommedieu 23 scored her first goal of the season to lead the field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Oneonta. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Whether they're looking for a place to harmonize with other vocalists, toss a disc with Ultimate enthusiasts, or influence change as a campus leader, this on-campus event is a place for students to share their passions, hobbies, and budding interests. President Morris shared a message with the St. Lawrence community honoring the life of  Donella (Doni) Peters who helped sustain the daily rhythms of this campus as senior clerk in the St. Lawrence mailroom for nearly 20 years. Read the message. 

Track and Field Teams Secure Ice Broken Open Titles; Spring Sports Continue

The Saints track and field teams are continuing a winning streak after securing team titles at Ice Broken Open on Saturday. The women's team won 12 events and the men's team won 9 events during the home meet against Castleton, Clarkson, Herkimer, NVU-Johnson, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam. The weekend wins continued with the men’s and women’s tennis teams each dominating Bard 9-0 while men’s lacrosse defeated Ithaca 14-10 and women’s lacrosse beat Bard 20-8. Baseball defeated Ithaca 6-2 after beating SUNY Poly 2-0 last week while Esports advanced to the Elite 8 in the Teemo Cup after securing a 2-0 win over Milligan University. After winning its 11th-straight Regional Championship,  four members of Saints riding will advance to Zones on April 9. Eleven skiers from the Alpine and Nordic ski teams were honored by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA) for having earned National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team honors for the 2022 season while six members of the men's and women's track and field teams earned all-region honors for the indoor season, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.
