    Major Gift Endows St. Lawrence University Head Football Coach Position in Memory of Steve Munn ’64

    The St. Lawrence University Head Football Coach is now an endowed position thanks to a $1.5 million gift from the Munn family in memory of Steve Munn ’64. The family gift recognizes Munn’s roles as a former student-athlete and supporter of St. Lawrence athletics, a past University trustee (’82-’91), and proud parent of Michele Munn Celestino ’90 and Trustee Robyn Munn Gengras ’94, P’28.

    Gallery Presentation: Guerrilla Girls via Zoom (in-person and online)

    - Griffith Arts Center 123 and via Zoom A Zoom discussion with members of Guerrilla Girls, an anonymous group of feminist, female artists devoted to fighting sexism and racism within the art world. This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibit "Guerrilla Girls: The Art of Behaving Badly," currently on display at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery.

    Saints Upset Rivals and Display Dominance

    • Women’s Hockey: No. 7 ranked Saints took down No. 9 Clarkson Friday night in a high-scoring 6-5 conference game. Graduate student Anna Segedi led the way with two goals, while graduate student Claire Tyo netted three assists in the effort. Junior Emma-Sofie Nordstrum had 33 saves in the first game of the Route 11 rivalry, as the Saints split the weekend with Clarkson.
    • Men’s Hockey: In the Route 11 Rivalry this weekend, juniors Isack Bandu and Jan Lasak each scored a goal to upset No. 20 Clarkson 2-1 Saturday night in conference play. Sophomore Mason Kucenski stopped 26 shots as the Saints split the weekend with their regional foes. 
    • Nordic Skiing: Senior Emma Strack is participating in the 2025 FIS Nordic Junior/U23 Cross-Country World Ski Championships in Schilpario, Italy. She will go through a short training camp In Seefeld, Austria before taking part in the championships. Strack will be competing in the classic sprint on February 4, and the classic mass-start 20k on February 6, where she will look to become a world champion.
    • Men’s Basketball: The Saints swept this weekend on the road going 2-0. First, they took on Hobart Friday Night, winning 58-52 with four players reaching double digits in points. In front was sophomore Troy McPherson, who had 13 points off the bench. Saturday afternoon the Saints beat RIT 91-76, which is the highest team total of points since the 2018-2019 season.
    • Women’s Basketball: The Saints dominated Willam Smith 64-46 Friday night on the road in Geneva. Junior Caelan McHarney put up a career-high of 16 points in just 19 minutes, while sophomore Elizabeth Flynn also put up 12 points.
    • Track-and-Field: Both the men’s and women’s teams put on strong performances at the St. Lawrence Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The men’s team grabbed first place in a dominant performance as their total team score was 67.5 points ahead of second-place Utica. On the women’s side, the Saints placed second overall thanks to multiple strong outings, including freshman Avery Blanchard placing first in the mile event, and sophomore Quinn Sirgany placing first in the 800-meter. The relay team of junior Cameran Stone, junior Adriana Cecchetelli, first-year Avery Blanchard, and sophomore Quinn Sirgany placed first in the distance medley with a time of 13:05.70, which allows them to go to regionals.
    • Squash: First-year Gregory Malsang won his quarterfinal match of the Molloy East to set the tone for both the men’s and women’s squash teams at the CSA Individual Nationals at Open Squash in New York, N.Y. He faced Bates’ Alec Spiro, where he swept the match 11-6, 11-2, and 11-6 and made it to the semifinals where he unfortunately lost to Huzaifa Ibrahim from Trinity. On the women’s side, first-year Angel Otshabeng made her debut against Georgetown’s Rachel Mashek in the quarterfinal of the Holleran West Bracket. She put up a fight but ultimately lost 11-4, 11-8, and 11-7.

    Athletics Atrium Named in Honor of George W. Karpus ’68

    George W. Karpus ’68 was honored during Laurentian Weekend 2022 for his prolific contributions to St. Lawrence University and its Division III athletics program. As alumni, parents, and others came back to enjoy the weekend celebrations, nearly 200 Laurentians gathered for the naming of the George W. Karpus ’68 Atrium.

    Artist's Lecture by Grant Wade Jonathan

    - Griffiths Arts Center Room 123 Each One Inspired artist Grant Wade Jonathan is a Tuscarora-raised beadwork artist and an attorney, who currently works in the EPA's American Indian Environmental Office in New York City.  When he is not assisting the Haudenosaunee in addressing their environmental concerns, he pursues his other passion of Tuscarora raised beadwork design. Join him for a lecture.

    The Scarlet and Brown topped the competition as Saints women's soccer shut out Bard 4-0 on the road and men's soccer defeated Bard 3-2 at home on Friday.     In accordance with public health recommendations, a COVID-19 vaccination booster is required for all St. Lawrence University students and employees within 30 days of becoming eligible.     Former Saints Women's Lacrosse and Field Hockey Coach to be Honored with IWLCA Hall of Fame Induction

    Longtime St. Lawrence women's lacrosse and field hockey coach Dotty Hall will be enshrined in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame in November. Hall was one of the most successful coaches in the history of Saints women's athletics with a combined win total of 306 victories in field hockey and lacrosse. Read her story

    Saints Head to Liberty League Championships; Swim Program Records Shattered

    The men’s and women’s track and field teams are headed to the Liberty League Championships after winning the SLU Open against SUNY Plattsburgh, Utica, Vermont, Mohawk Valley, and SUNY Potsdam last weekend. During the Liberty League Championships in Ithaca, the women's swimming and diving team shattered program records in the 800 freestyle relay and 4x400 freestyle as Maggie Wenger '24 set a new 100 freestyle program record. Over the weekend, men’s basketball defeated Union 81-62 to secure a first-round playoff game after topping Skidmore 65-64 and women’s basketball beat Skidmore 76-45 to secure their 20th win of the season. Men’s ice hockey defeated Cornell 2-1 in an overtime contest on Friday while women’s ice hockey skated to a 3-3 tie with Harvard last week and men’s tennis beat SUNY Oneonta 8-1 on Saturday.     First Person: Finding My Passion and Personal Brand

    After a semester of exploring different classes at St. Lawrence, Owen Hammel ’22 still wasn’t sure where he wanted to focus his college experience, at least not until a favorite rap album inspired him to try his hand at video editing. Over the next few years, Owen tailored his classes to fit his growing passion for videography and honed his skills while capturing campus life as a member of the student marketing team.
