    English Professor’s New Book Explores the Power of Stories

    Professor of English Pedro Ponce has published a book of stories that explore human reality and possibility through the power of storytelling. The book, “The Devil and the Dairy Princess,” which was published by Indiana University Press, includes 10 stories that are described by the publisher as “perfect for any reader who enjoys literary realism or speculative fiction.”

    First Person: My Internship Fellowship Experience

    When people ask me what I did last summer, I always like to start the conversation with “Well, I was a part-time organ farmer." While this may sound a little strange, it accurately sums up the research that I was able to do—largely because of St. Lawrence’s Internship Fellowship Program.

    CIIS Launches Travel Grant Map

    The Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS) partnered with the Digital Scholarship team to  create an interactive map that features personal essays written by travel grant recipients. Users can select countries around the globe to read about St. Lawrence students' funded research experiences.

    SLU Writers Series Presents: Eli Clare via Zoom

    - via Zoom Eli Clare is a poet, essayist, and social justice educator. His nonfiction debut Exile and Pride: Disability, Queerness, and Liberation (1999), narrated his experiences as a white disabled genderqueer activist and writer, and is credited with breaking new ground at the intersection of disability politics and queer liberation. Registration is required for this Zoom event.

    Volleyball Player Hits Career Milestone; Field Hockey Coach Fran Grembowicz Celebrates 200th Career Win

    Last week, Natalie Piper '22 recorded her 1,000th kill for Saints Volleyball as the team beat SUNY Potsdam 3-0 at home. Piper is the quickest to 1,000 in the program's 41-year history. The week's wins continued with Saints Esports securing their second straight win in the ECAC season against Nazareth College 2-0 and defeating New England College 3-0. On Thursday, the volleyball team defeated SUNY Plattsburgh 3-1 on the road.
    On Friday, the field hockey team toppled William Smith 2 -1, earning Head Coach Fran Grembowicz her 200th career win, while both the women's and men's soccer teams defeated Bard College 2-1.  On Saturday, Volleyball defeated Hamilton College 3-1 while the Esports team beat Long Island University 2-1. On Sunday, the field hockey team secured a 2-1 win over the University of Rochester at home.

    Laying the Groundwork for Plastic Degradation Research 

    Rae Dunbar '23, a combined environmental studies and biology major, wanted answers to the global problem of plastic pollution. After receiving a stipend to spend eight weeks on campus this past summer as a University Fellow,  she laid that groundwork for future researchers interested in plastic degradation.

    Laurentians to Receive Honorary Degrees

    In recognition of their exemplary accomplishments and steadfast commitment to St. Lawrence University, President Emeritus William L. Fox. ’75, Lynn Smith Fox, and Grant H. Cornwell Jr. ’79 will be presented with honorary degrees during this year’s commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 22.

    McNair Scholar Selected for National Science Foundation Fellowship

    Following a competitive nationwide search, Anuva Anannya ’22 has been selected for the 2022 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, making her the first St. Lawrence McNair Scholar to receive the prestigious award that will fund her research-based master's and doctoral degrees at an accredited U.S. institution of her choice.

    Lost and Found: A&AH Senior Year Exhibition

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery Celebrate members of the Class of 2022 during the final week of the "Lost and Found" is a Senior Year Experience exhibition. This collection of artwork focuses on self-discovery and self-reflection and that was created at the edge of the precipice before true adulthood and a transitory state that can be simultaneously confusing, frightening, and exciting.

    Commencement Weekend 2022

    - Congratulations St. Lawrence Class of 2022! The St. Lawrence community will come together in a campus-wide celebration of the graduating class beginning Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22. A livestream of the commencement ceremony will begin Sunday, May 22 at 9:50 a.m.

    Saints Lacrosse End Seasons at NCAAs; Scarlet and Brown Earn All-League Honors

    After a record-breaking season and first NCAA appearance in over three decades, Saints Women’s Lacrosse concluded its spring season during a second-round matchup against Tufts. The No. 10 Saints Men’s Lacrosse defeated Cortland 15-14 in the second round of the NCAA tournament but fell to Bowdin in the third round. This week, the men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to Pennsylvania to compete in the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference. In recognition of their stellar spring sports performances, several members of the Scarlet and Brown earned All-League Honors. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Spring Student-Athletes Earn Liberty League All-Academic Honors

    A total of 109 St. Lawrence spring sport student-athletes earned Liberty League All-Academic honors, recognizing their all-star performances in the classroom. To be recognized as a member of the All-Academic Team a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30.

  7. Faculty and Staff Honored, Awarded Promotions at Annual Convocation Ceremony

    Marking the start of a new academic year, faculty, staff, and university personnel gathered to celebrate the contributions of all members of the St. Lawrence community. The University recognized faculty who earned tenure and promotions during the annual Convocation and honored several employees with awards for their outstanding service. The ceremony was held outside the Herring-Cole Grove in the Enchanted Forest on Wednesday, August 23.
