St. Lawrence University Names John Christopher as Inaugural Vice President and General Counsel St. Lawrence has named John Christopher its inaugural Vice President and General Counsel, President Kathryn A. Morris announced on Aug. 10. Christopher, who will also serve as Secretary of the University Corporation, plans to begin his duties on Sept. 12.

First Day of Classes and Convocation Wed, Aug 24 - All day Convocation is a "calling together" of the academic community at the start of a new year. University Receives $1.5 Million Gift to Support Well-being and Honor Golf Coach Inspired by her passion to promote mental health and well-being on our campus, especially the emotional wellness of student-athletes, Jan Egbers P’21 is presenting St. Lawrence University with a $1.5 million gift, which will create an endowment to support St. Lawrence mental health and counseling services. The fund also honors retiring long-time Head Golf Coach Mary Lawrence by naming the position the Mary A. Lawrence Head Coach for Men's and Women's Golf.

St. Lawrence Dedicates Building in Honor of Bill and Lynn Fox A space at the heart of St. Lawrence’s campus where students can access resources that support their success in the classroom now bears the name Fox Hall, home of the William L. Fox ’75 Center for Academic Opportunity.

St. Lawrence Board of Trustees Elects New Members St. Lawrence University’s Board of Trustees has elected Kathleen Perkins Colson ’79 and Carolyn Davidow Putney ’88, P’22 as new term members. The trustees will serve for a period of six years beginning on June 1.

Richard F. Brush Art Gallery to Present Indigenous Perceptions of Nature Exhibition Fri, Apr 22 - All day Brush Art Gallery The St. Lawrence University Richard F. Brush Art Gallery exhibition showcasing artwork created by Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Canadian Inuit, and Peruvian artists is on display until Saturday, June 4.

Athletics

Saints Wrap Up Seasons; Earn Athletic and Academic Accolades After breaking program records and securing several podium finishes this year, Timothy Boyce '25 and Emma Palumbo '25 capped off their respective rookie seasons by securing 14th and 15th place finishes at the NCAA Track and Field Championship Meet. In recognition of her exemplary leadership on and off the field, Saints Women's Lacrosse Captain and ROTC Commander Abigail Eberle '22 was named a 2022 Yeardley Reynolds Love Unsung Hero Award recipient while Isabel Silvia '22 earned IQCLA Third-Team All-American honors, making her the 17th All-American in the history of the Saints Women's Lacrosse program. Five members of the men's lacrosse team were awarded USILA-Dynamic Division II All-American honors while Nicholas Butler '22 was named to All-Region 3 Third Team, and several Saints were named to the Academic All-District team for their academic and athletics achievements. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Digital Media and Film Major Celebrates Launch Event On Tuesday, November 1, 2022 the new Digital Media and Film (DMF) department held an informal event to celebrate the launch of its new major at St. Lawrence University.

Math Major Presents Research at NY6 Undergraduate Research Conference Alexandra Hill '23 presented her research project entitled “The Interaction Between Mental Health and Positionality in Literature: A Data Science Analysis” at the NY6 Undergraduate Research Conference at Colgate University on November 5th.

Athletics

Saints Winter Sports in Full Swing While the men's and women's cross country teams concluded the fall season with individual and team appearances at the NCAA National Championships, the winter sports season continues in full swing for the Saints. Over the weekend, men's basketball defeated SUNY Canton 68-52 and SUNY Potsdam 71-62  after beating Plattsburgh 77-65 earlier in the week.  Women's basketball topped Plattsburgh 60-58 while men's squash opened its season with a 9-0 shutout over Brown University on Sunday. St. Lawrence Celebrates International Education Week During International Education Week, students across campus gathered to eat, dance, create, and learn while celebrating the many different cultures represented at St. Lawrence. From Diwali, the Festival of Lights, dance workshops, and language lessons, to international art and sushi-making classes, there was no shortage of opportunities for students to share their cultures and learn new things about our community. Dr. Mert Kartal and Ceyda Onaran Kartal Lead Summer Course in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg Students recently spent two weeks exploring the past, present, and future of Europe and the European Union (EU). To learn about the cultural, historical, and political factors that have shaped Europe, students visited various sites of key importance under the guidance of Dr. Mert Kartal and Ceyda Onaran Kartal.

Saints Make Canada's National Selection Camp, Season Tickets Now Available Members of the women's ice hockey team Julia Gosling '23 and Abby Hustler '25 received invitations to join Canada’s National Women’s Program camp. During the 11-day camp, the pair will vye for spots on Canada’s National Women’s Team, Canada’s National Women’s Development Team, and Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team. Richard F. Brush Art Gallery Presents: Inspiring, Controversial, Obey! Wed, Aug 10 - All day Richard F. Brush Art Gallery The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery presents work by one of the most well-known contemporary American street artists, Shepard Fairey on display from Wednesday, August 10 through Saturday, September 3. In celebration of the exhibition, the community is invited to participate in a sticker design contest. Submissions are due Thursday, September 1 at noon.
