    What’s at Stake: Alumni, Faculty Publish Research on Climate Change and Winter Sports in the North Country

    Winter in the North Country is synonymous with outdoor activities like pond hockey and cross country skiing. In a collaborative research article recently published in The Adirondack Journal of Environmental Studies, two faculty members and three St. Lawrence alumni explore how carbon emissions and climate change could affect these cold-weather traditions.

    Women's Basketball Continues Unbeaten Streak

    In a battle of the last two teams undefeated in Liberty League conference play, Saints Women's Basketball defeated Vassar 99-81 on the road on Saturday to improve to 10-0. Men’s Basketball secured a 68-61win over Bard on Friday after kicking off the new year with a 67-60 victory over Elmira.  Last week, several winter sports schedules were adjusted due to health and COVID-19 safety protocols. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Employee Booster Requirement

    Senior Staff sent a message to employees on Thursday, January 13, announcing that the University has accepted the Campus Safety Monitoring Committee's recommendation that all employees be required to have a vaccination booster against COVID-19.     Weekly Testing Clinic Time Change

    The University's Weekly Testing Clinic hours have been adjusted for the week of January 17-21. Testing will take place Tuesday, January 19, 12 -1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, January 19, 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. in Eben Holden (South Room).     Program Records and Award Nominations for Saints Athletes; Winter Sports Continue

    Saints Women’s Basketball secured a 66-52 win over RPI and Katie Frederick ’21 became the first Saint to record 1,000 career rebounds in a loss to Ithaca on Friday. At the Utica Winter Opener, Women’s Track and Field’s Maia Wahlquist ’25 won the high jump while Men’s Track and Field secured a slew of top 8 performances. On day two of the Colby College Carnival, Ethan Hejna ’22 and Victoria Cubina ’24 posted the top results in their respective slaloms for the Saints Alpine Ski Team.     Class of 2020 Celebrated at Commencement

    ​​​​​​​It was 442 days in the making, but members of St. Lawrence University’s Class of 2020 were finally able to come back together for the first time since March 2020 for their long-awaited commencement ceremony. ​​​​​​​More than 350 graduates returned to campus for the ceremony held on Sunday, August 1, in Newell Field House, with nearly 1,000 people in attendance.

No one knows where the Slububu came from, but rumor has it he survives entirely on Pub Cookies and school spirit.     On July 16, President Morris informed the Laurentian community about the passing of Julia "Julie" Regan, a longtime member of the University staff as an executive secretary.     St. Lawrence University honored several employees with awards for their outstanding service and recognized a number of faculty who earned tenure and promotions during their annual Convocation event, which was held outside in the Herring-Cole Grove on Wednesday, August 25.

    Saints Earn Accolades and Secure Shutout Wins

    Men’s Cross Country—Junior Nick Lyndaker was named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and Liberty League Performer of the Week following running to a first-place finish at the Hamilton Short Course Invitational. He had a personal best time in the 5k run, winning the race by 21 seconds.

    Football—The Saints took home the Hoffman Cup with a victory over Norwich Friday, bringing the Cup back to the North Country by a 20-9 final score. The win marked the fourth-straight Hoffman Cup win for the Saints and improved their record to 1-1 for the season.

    Women’s Soccer—Darcie McDonough was named Liberty League Co-Defensive Performer of the Week after leading the Saints to a 2-0 record. The senior netminder stopped two shots in a 1-0 victory at SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday, then on Saturday did the same, stopping both shots she faced in a 4-0 win over Oswego State.

    Women’s Cross Country—First-year Avery Blanchard was named Liberty League Rookie of the Week for her performance at Hamilton, running for a time of 14:59 and a fifth-place finish in the 4k race. 

    Women’s Hockey—Senior forward and alternate captain Abby Hustler was named a Preseason All-ECAC Hockey selection, as announced by the league office on Monday morning. Hustler led the Scarlet and Brown with 24 goals and 31 assists for 55 points on the season. She tallied 12 power-play goals and five game-winners.
