Over the last month, several athletic teams were recognized for their academic achievements including women's lacrosse, men's hockey, women's hockey, volleyball, men's golf, and women's golf. A Conversation with NY Fed President John Williams: An Economic Outlook Presentation and Q & A

As part of a series of meetings to hear about and discuss regional economic issues, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s President and CEO, John C. 20 Years After 9/11: Faculty, Staff, Alumni Event Series Continues
"20 Year-Anniversary in the Global Community," a CIIS World Topic Series, will take place Wednesday, Sept. 8, via Zoom, a Faculty Cafe featuring Professor of Global Studies John Collins' new book, "Globalizing Collateral Language: From 9/11 to Endless War," is happening Friday, Sept. 10, and a Chapel Service on Saturday, Sept. 11. Check out the event details. 

Several teams kicked off their respective seasons this weekend. The men's and women's golf teams hit the links at the St. Lawrence Invitational on the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course while Women's Tennis opened their 2021-22 season at the Mary Hosking Invitational hosted by William Smith. On Saturday, the men's and women's cross country teams emerged victorious in their meets against SUNY Plattsburgh, while Field Hockey defeated SUNY Oneonta, 5- 1. Weekly Testing Clinic to Resume Normal Hours

The University's Weekly Testing Clinic hours have resumed their normal schedule. Testing will take place Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m.  in Eben Holden (South Room). For up-to-date testing information, visit the Always Forward website. 

University to Offer Booster Clinic

The University is partnering with St. Lawrence County Public Health to offer a booster clinic Thursday, January 27.  Appointments will be required and priority will be given to students. Students should check their inboxes for an email from Health Services.

Weekend Wins for Saints Athletics; Winter Sports Continue

Saints Women’s Swimming and Diving secured their fourth straight dual meet victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday after defeating SUNY Potsdam on Friday, while Women’s Ice Hockey celebrated three key ECAC Hockey victories last week against Princeton (4-1), Union (5-1) and RPI (4-0). The weekend wins continued with the men’s and women’s track and field teams winning their respective home invitationals against SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Potsdam, while the men’s ice hockey team defeated Dartmouth 3-1. Women’s Squash swept Georgetown 9-0 following a 5-4 victory over Dickinson, while Men’s Squash defeated Dickinson 7-2 after topping Brown 8-1 last week. Several members of the Saints men's and women's hockey teams were named Krampade All-American Scholars by the American Hockey Coaches Association for their academic success during the 2020-21 season. Weekend Wins and Broken Records for the Saints, Spring Sports Continue

Over the weekend, both the men's and women's tennis teams celebrated a Senior Day sweep by shutting out Bard College 9-0. The wins for the Saints continued with baseball defeating Bard 16-6, softball shutting out Skidmore 3-0, men's lacrosse defeating Vassar 17-12, and women's lacrosse beating RPI 13-12. Men's golf topped Clarkson 303-312 in a single round while Mary Grace McCann '25 claimed the top spot for the women's golf team at the Martin and Wallace Invite in Cortland. Celebrating International Students Day

Collectively, the New York Six schools enroll more than 1,000 international students from nearly every continent. This year, St. Lawrence hosted the third annual NY6 International Students Day, a weekend of activities and celebration in recognition of the many ways these students enrich life on our campuses and in our communities. Saints Take Advantage of Summer Semester 
St. Lawrence student athletes made the most of their summer in Canton. Between practice sessions and a demanding compressed academic schedule, they took advantage of opportunities to help them stay on track for the fall sports season. 

12-Hour Shift: Combating COVID-19 One Shot at a Time
For Curtis Amory '23, working for St. Lawrence Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in fall 2020, was difficult but rewarding.  After experiencing firsthand the damage COVID-19 can do, he remained committed to helping the North Country by working at a vaccination clinic.

Skating Saints Defeat Clarkson in Exhibition Contest; Fall Sports Continue 

In their first game since the ECAC Championship, the men's ice hockey team defeated 19th ranked Clarkson 3 - 0 in an exhibition contest on Saturday at Cheel Arena. The Saturday wins continued with the field hockey team securing its first Liberty League win of the season by defeating RPI 2-1 at home.

On Friday, the Esports Overwatch team topped Lackawanna 3-0 for their first win of the season while women's ice hockey defeated Syracuse  4-1 at Appleton.  Last week, Lillian Sullivan '23 and Caitlyn Avery '23 won their doubles and singles matches to lead women's tennis to a 7-2 win over SUNY Oneonta at home.

Weekend Victories for the Saints

Over the weekend, Saints women's tennis wrapped its regular season with a 7-2 win over William Smith after dominating Ithaca 7-2. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's tennis defeating Ithaca 8-1 on the road while men's rowing Varsity 8 placed first at the Skidmore Sprints. During the University of Rochester Alumni Meet, Nicholas Lyndaker '26 won the 1500m, Michael Skutt '24 won the 5000m, George Gowdy '23 won the 10,000m, and Eric Geier '23 won the 110m hurdles for the men's track and field team while Haylei Coolican '23 won the 5000m for the women's team. Last week, the Saints secured local rival wins as women's lacrosse topped Clarkson 15-12 and softball beat Potsdam 6-4. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Kaleidoscope 2023

The St. Lawrence community filled Eben Holden last week in celebration of Kaleidoscope, the annual showcase of international fare, from traditional foods, music, and dancing to spoken word, and other presentations by our talented students—closing out an eventful World Languages Week! Saints Win Big and Earn Accolades

• Men’s Squash: The Saints went 2-0 this week, edging Hamilton 5-4 in a close match before securing a dominant 9-0 sweep over Dickinson on their Senior Day. Senior Lewis Anderson earned the victory at No. 1, while fellow seniors Hassan Madkour and Dean Brooker recorded three-game sweeps. The Saints, now 5-5, will compete in the Liberty League Championship this weekend, hosted at St. Lawrence.
• Alpine Skiing: Senior Kobe Villeneuve landed on the podium with a career-best second-place finish in the men’s giant slalom at the Saint Michael’s Carnival. Villeneuve clocked a two-run time of 1:49.15, just 0.01 seconds behind the first-place finisher. His finish marks the first podium for the Saints in the event since Graham Scott ’15 placed second in 2012. The Saints finished fourth overall in the giant slalom.
• Men’s Hockey: Seniors Will Arquiett and Philippe Chapleau each scored a goal in Friday night’s 2-1 home victory over Cornell. On Saturday, the Skating Saints honored the 25th anniversary of the 1999-2000 Frozen Four team with an on-ice ceremony at Appleton Arena.
• Men’s Basketball: Two Saints recorded career-high 26-point performances as the team went 1-1 on the road. On Friday, senior Aidan Macaulay led the Saints to a 77-65 win over Bard with his 26-point effort. Junior Dan Anderson matched that total on Saturday against Vassar.
• Women’s Basketball: The Saints dominated Bard on Friday night with a strong defensive performance, securing a 68-35 victory. Sophomore Elizabeth Flynn recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
• Nordic Skiing: The men’s team competed in 3.5K skate relays on day two of the Saint Michael’s Carnival. Sophomore Geo DeBrosse, first-year Evan Nichols, and junior Trevor Aitken combined for a time of 43:43.8, placing 15th and earning 46 team points. The women’s team of sophomore Samantha Legate, first-year Caroline Tarmy, and senior Lilli Thomas finished 17th with a time of 50:17.7, earning 39 points.
• Cross Country: Both cross-country teams earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors this past week. On the women’s side, senior McKenna Allardi was named a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, while junior Patrick Russell and senior Matthew Taylor received the same distinction on the men’s team.

On Monday, President Morris informed the St. Lawrence community about the passing of Trustee Emeritus John W. Priesing P’94. A beloved trustee, devoted parent, and loyal supporter of St. Lawrence University, John’s long and purposeful life was marked by exemplary service, leadership, and generosity. Saints Clinch Liberty League Playoffs 

• Men’s Basketball: The Saints secured a Liberty League playoff berth with a Friday night victory over Skidmore. Junior Adam Dudzinski led the team with 18 points, while junior Dan Anderson added 10. St. Lawrence now turns its focus to tonight’s first-round matchup against third-seeded Vassar on the road.
• Women’s Basketball: St. Lawrence closed out the regular season with a commanding 62-40 win over RPI, clinching the fifth seed in the Liberty League playoffs. Junior Jackie Malley drained five three-pointers en route to 17 points, while sophomore Elizabeth Flynn contributed 10 rebounds and nine points. The Saints will travel to RIT on Tuesday night for a win-or-go-home first-round game.
• Women’s Tennis: The Saints extended their winning streak to three with a 5-2 home victory over Rochester on Sunday afternoon. A sweep in doubles play and strong singles performances from junior Molly Jesperson and first-year Eleanor McDermed led the way in a complete team effort.
• Men’s Hockey: Senior captain Mason Waite has been nominated for the 2025 ECAC Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, as announced by the conference on Thursday. The award recognizes the male ECAC student-athlete who best exemplifies leadership, academic excellence, and community involvement. Waite, a three-time ECAC All-Academic Teamselection, is set to earn the honor for a fourth time when the 2025 recipients are announced.

Tis' The Season of Softball, Baseball, Golf, and Lacrosse!

Jimmy King '26 was named the Individual Champion at the Liberty League Championships, leading Saints men’s golf to a second-place finish at the par-72 Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone on Sunday. There was a playoff to determine the individual champion and Jimmy won on the second playoff hole. Jimmy finished with par on the first hole. Jimmy's opponent hit an errant drive on the second hole, leaving Jimmy with the win and a par.

Judge Murphy '24 tallied six goals and an assist for seven points to lead the third-ranked Saints men's lacrosse team to a 15-10 upset win over fourth-ranked RPI on Saturday afternoon in Troy, New York. With the win, the Saints clinched the second seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament and earned regular season co-championship honors, with three teams finishing league play at 6-1. Second to Judge, Daniel Mahoney '27 recorded four goals and two ground balls, while Ted Wilson '26 scored twice.

Two goals each from Liz Evans '24 and Jessica LaPlaca '27 were unfortunately not enough, as the seventh-seeded Saints women's lacrosse team fell 19-6 in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament to William Smith Tuesday.

Both Saints baseball and softball wrapped up their regular seasons with two wins over the weekend. Baseball took two of three games against Clarkson, while softball swept Skidmore. Softball heads to RPI this weekend, hoping to lock down a playoff spot, while baseball engages Clarkson once more in the end-of-season series.

Festival of Science, Scholarship, and Creativity! ❤️🤎

On Friday, we forego regularly scheduled classes to celebrate our students’ academic accomplishments during the Festival of Science, Scholarship, and Creativity. This year, we learned how stress affects metamorphosis in frogs, how students think about sustainability on campus, how retinol has changed our relationship with aging, and how math can help us make better decisions in games like Monopoly or Dungeons and Dragons (among many other fascinating topics). During our annual Dance Showcase, we watch 16 students perform contemporary, jazz, Irish step, and classical pointe numbers. In the Brush Art Gallery, our gallery exhibition focused on “what we hold.” The 12 senior artists featured used a variety of mediums to consider the things in their lives that are hard to let go of—for better or worse.
