Student Research Investigates Ways to Save Lives 

Alice Khalil ’27, a neuroscience major and chemistry minor from Baniyas, Syria, spent her summer working on a faster, more sensitive way to detect heart attacks in their earliest stages. In the lab with Professor of Chemistry Samantha Glazier, she conducted research aimed at detecting even the smallest traces of troponin more accurately and earlier than current methods allow.

Women’s Tennis: Senior Angelica Aksdal-Jansen reached the ITA Northeast Regional semifinals, one of just four remaining from a 128-player field. She rallied to win the second set but fell 6-3 in the third to NYU’s Victoria Wang.

Women’s Soccer: Senior Meredith Donahue scored early in Sunday’s match, but the Saints settled for a 1-1 draw at Hamilton. SLU’s record now stands at 4-3-3.

Men’s Golf: First-year Conlin Bradshaw surged 14 spots on Sunday at the Bowdoin Invitational, finishing T-7th with a 146. He birdied four holes in the final round to cut six strokes off his score.

Masking Policy Update

Academic Affairs and Student Life sent a message to the community on Monday, Feb. 28 announcing that due to the current declines in active COVID-19 cases on campus and throughout the county, the St. Lawrence University face-mask requirement is changing for vaccinated individuals beginning Wednesday, March 2. Read the message and new masking guidelines. 

Saints Earn Liberty League Titles, Head to Championships

During the Liberty League Championships in Ithaca, men’s track and field’s Erik Geier ’23 won the 60-meter hurdle to secure the Liberty League title while women's track and field's Kathleen Merchant '22 won the shot put. Alpine skiing’s Ava Mattsson ’22 is headed to the NCAAs in Park City, Utah following her performance at the UNH Carnival and the men’s ice hockey team is set to compete in the opening round of the conference playoffs after concluding their regular season with a 3-1 win over Yale 3-1 and a 1-1 tie with Brown. During the ECAC Quarterfinals, women’s ice hockey defeated Yale 4-2 but ultimately fell to the No. 7 ranked team. The riding team won its 12th straight Regional Championship Title by finishing the season with the highest point total from the regular season and women’s tennis opened conference play with a 6-3 win over Union.  Women’s squash dominated Wesleyan 9-0 at the CSA Team Nationals but fell to Middlebury College in the final round. During the Liberty League Semifinals, women’s basketball defeated Skidmore (64-60) and Vassar(80-63) but fell to Ithaca in the championship game on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores. SLU Close the Loop

St. Lawrence students are passionate about making sustainable choices accessible to everyone.  SLU Close the Loop, an initiative to reduce waste by fostering an exchange and swap culture on campus, hosted its first-ever clothing swap where students had a chance to change up their closets and find new style inspiration while helping to reduce waste on campus. View photos of the event on the St. Lawrence Instagram account.

The first day of classes marks a fresh start, new goals, new challenges, and new chances to grow. Here’s to the friendships, the late nights, and the memories all Laurentians will make along the way!

Throughout this week, Health Services will host walk-in COVID-19 testing clinics for symptomatic students or students with a recent known COVID-19 exposure. Clinics will be held Monday, Nov. 29, through Friday, Dec. 3, from 8:30 -11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Diana B. Torrey '82 Health and Counseling Center. These clinics are in addition to the University's weekly testing clinics, which are held for unvaccinated campus community members and also open to any asymptomatic student, faculty, and staff member. Weekly testing clinics take place Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Eben Holden.

NCAA Personal Bests for Men's XC; Winter Sports Continue

The Saints had much to celebrate the first weekend of break! Three members of the men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, where Jackson Hamilton ’23 and George Gowdy ’23 each set personal best times. The women’s basketball team defeated SUNY Plattsburgh 83-41, Williams College 65-64, and Hamilton 72-68, while the men's squad beat SUNY Plattsburgh 85-70 and SUNY Potsdam 70-61. The riding team won its second home show of the year at the St. Lawrence Show. The wins continued at the outset of break with Men’s Squash defeating both Haverford and Middlebury 8-1 and Women’s Squash sweeping Haverford 9-0, while Women’s Ice Hockey beat Brown 2-1 and RIT 5-1 and Men’s Ice Hockey secured a 6-4 win over Princeton.

Track and Field Teams Win Ice Breaker Open; Spring Sports Continue

The men’s and women’s track and field teams each won the Ice Breaker Open to kick off the outdoor season. The women’s team secured first place in nine events while the men’s team won eight events. Saints women’s lacrosse topped Ithaca College 17-16 while the baseball team defeated Vassar 9-8 and 6-5 and the softball team dominated SUNY Canton 8-0 and 7-3. On Saturday, our community came together to celebrate all of the people, traditions, and cultures that make St. Lawrence such a rewarding place to live and learn. A Week of Winning!

Saints baseball recorded their first sweep of league play over the weekend, downing RIT with three wins, 14-6, 4-1 and 10-9, all in nine-inning contests on Friday and Saturday. Entering the final week and a half of the regular season, the Saints play Clarkson in a three-game series beginning Friday with playoff implications for both teams. The Saints currently occupy the fifth seed in the Liberty Leagues west division, with five teams making the postseason.

Both men’s and women’s tennis teams took victories in their league play over the weekend, with men’s tennis beating Bard 9-0 and went 1-1 overall on the week, also losing to RPI. Women’s tennis also downed Bard 9-0 and engaged in a close match against RPI, narrowly losing 5-4. Yvette Karara '27 was perfect on the weekend, including a 2-0 day in the tight defeat against the Engineers.

Esports season officially came to an end on a 4-1 playoff loss to Kennesaw State. The team enjoyed a successful campaign, finishing second in the Northeast Region and top 14 in the nation within their division of the National Esports Collegiate Conference.

Jimmy King '26 tied for sixth place to lead the St. Lawrence men's golf team at the Farmingdale Spring Invitational over the weekend at the par-70 Bethpage Black Course in Long Island, New York.

Remembering Robert N. Wells, Jr., P’92, GP’23 & ’25

The St. Lawrence community is mourning the loss of a cherished family member, Emeritus Munsil Professor of Government Bob Wells, who taught at St. Lawrence for more than 45 years. Read the message from President Morris.

COVID-19 Winter Break Testing

A testing clinic will be offered Tuesday, December 21, from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Eben Holden (South Room); parking is available in Lot C. There will not be any on-campus testing clinics offered the week of December 27. Testing clinics will resume in the new year on Wednesday, January 5, from 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Eben Holden (South Room). These clinics are open to any current campus community member (students, faculty, and staff).

Former Saints Football Coach Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame

Andy Talley coached the Saints Football team from 1979-1984. He was recently inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame, making him the first coach in St. Lawrence history to receive the honor. Read more about his legacy. 

Women's Basketball Team Surprises New Teammate

There’s nothing quite like the feeling when you know you’re going home. Head Coach Dan Roiger and the women’s basketball team recently surprised one of our newest Saints, Mason Baker ’26, by presenting her acceptance letter in person at one of the team’s basketball games. St. Lawrence University Senior Staff sent a message to employees announcing that the University has accepted the recommendation from the Campus Safety Monitoring Committee requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Wednesday, August 25; 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. at Gunnison Memorial Chapel

President Morris and Dean Schonberg will introduce our new faculty and staff colleagues, recognize newly tenured and promoted faculty colleagues, and recognize faculty colleagues newly appointed to endowed professorships. The Keene, Maslow, Taylor, and Coakley awards will also be presented.

In-person attendees must be masked per the University's current masking policy. Those not in attendance may watch the program via the livestream.

St. Lawrence University's men's and women's hockey teams will be on the ice in less than two months! Season tickets for the men's hockey games are now on sale, and admission to the women's games will still be free of charge, courtesy of North Country Savings Bank.
