Robin has an M.S.Ed in Educational Design, Training, and Development and an English as a Second Language teaching certificate and a doctorate in English Pedagogy/Writing in English Language Specialization. Robin teaches ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) academic English, ESOL education/methods, and African Studies courses. Robin also started and designed SLU’s Language and Cultural Exchange Program and is also the program coordinator for the Peace Corps Prep Program. In addition to being housed in World Languages, Cultures, and Media, Robin is also part of the African Studies Program.
Dr. Rhodes also regularly travels to China, Rwanda, and Kenya to train teachers and work with students. She is also on the TESOL Africa editorial board and has worked locally to write lesson plans for NYS Department of Health for local migrant farm workers. Robin regularly travels to present at national and international conferences and frequently publishes in various texts and journals. Robin specializes in linguistically and culturally sustaining English pedagogy, teacher training and English instruction abroad, and language and education in East Africa.
