Rachel B. Sturges is a journalist and essayist. She currently teaches and advises first-year students as an adjunct assistant professor in St. Lawrence University's First-Year Program. She earned an MFA in Creative Writing from The Pennsylvania State University in 2011, where she also taught technical writing and business communication for several years as a post-graduate teaching fellow. She regularly contributes articles about the intersection of science and nature to Earth Island Journal. She enjoys writing about people who live on the margin of what is known and what is yet to be discovered. To that end, she is working on a creative biography about the last woman who knew everything, Laura Fermi, and a novel about teenagers.
