Mark Erickson
After receiving his BS in Geology from Tufts University, Mark went west to North Dakota where he completed his MS in paleolimnology and sedimentology followed by a doctoral degree in invertebrate paleontology. His strongest interests are in mollusks, descriptive paleontology, micropaleontology and paleoecology. He most enjoyed introducing students to the great variety of scientific information that fossils can provide if one asks the right questions and is imaginative about finding the answers. A perusal of his works published alone or with his students will reveal much of that originality. His teaching career of 40 years at St. Lawrence introduced many students to historical geology through field and lab studies of sedimentary rocks and fossils particularly in North Dakota and the Cincinnati, Ohio areas.. Though he is retired, he continues to study fossils of many kinds, describing new species of several kinds in his recent papers. He is available for consultation with students by contacting him at meri@stlawu.edu and he is an avid participant in the SLU Geology Alumni Conference (SLUGAC).
