Kira Royce LMHC
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has worked with North Country students since 2006. Before joining the staff at the Diana B. Torrey ’82 Health and Counseling Center in 2014, I was employed by the counseling centers at SUNY Canton and Clarkson University. I view the counseling center within a contemporary liberal arts college as an ideal setting for supporting the continued growth and identity development of young adults during an important period of transition. Working from a person-centered stance that recognizes the importance of cultural influences, I use a variety of techniques to promote health, including cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness approaches. I have a strong belief in the importance of recognizing the role of physical wellness in optimum functioning, and I encourage students to gain greater awareness of the interrelatedness of their emotional and physical health.
In my personal time, I enjoy cross country, alpine and backcountry skiing in winter (when nature cooperates). In summer, I love wilderness camping, canoeing and doing anything involving the many wonderful lakes and rivers that surround us here in the North Country. You’ll likely run into me with my kids and/or husband Phil, (Director of the Outdoor Program) at the Canton Farmer’s Market, skiing at Big Tupper, or floating down the Grasse River. I live in Pierrepont with my family and our Golden Retriever, in a log home we built in 1998.
