Erin M. Colvin M '11
Greetings! My name is Erin M. Colvin, and I have been proud to be part of the St. Lawrence University (SLU) community since November 2007. I currently serve as the Assistant Director for the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), where I am dedicated to supporting and guiding students throughout their academic journeys. In addition to my work with HEOP, I had the opportunity to teach a First-Year Program course in fall 2018 titled “Native Americans: Yes, They Still Exist!”—an experience that allowed me to share my passion for inclusive education in the classroom.
In fall 2021, I was honored to receive the John P. “Jack” Taylor Distinguished Career Service Award. Established in 1995, this award recognizes distinguished service by a long-serving administrator who upholds the high standards of dedication and performance exemplified by Jack Taylor’s career as Director of Dining Services.
My own path in higher education was shaped by my experience as an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) student at SUNY Oswego, where I earned my BA in Communication Studies with a concentration in Public Relations. After graduation, I began my professional career working in opportunity programs, spending seven years with EOP and two years with HEOP prior to joining St. Lawrence. Altogether, I have devoted 26 years to supporting and advocating for students through New York State’s opportunity programs. Along the way, I earned an MEd in Educational Leadership from St. Lawrence University, completed additional graduate coursework at Syracuse University, and conducted graduate research abroad in Ireland through the University of Arkansas. I also studied abroad in London, England as part of my undergraduate journey, experiences that broadened my perspective both personally and professionally.
Beyond my professional and academic pursuits, I enjoy spending time on DIY home and yard projects, as well as channeling my creativity into designing and decorating specialty cakes. Though I am not a native of the North Country, I have developed a deep appreciation for the region and its unique opportunities, whether cheering at Friday and Saturday night hockey games in Appleton Arena, exploring the Adirondack Mountains, or traveling to nearby cities in Ontario and Quebec.
I look forward to continuing my work at SLU and contributing to the vibrant, supportive, and inspiring campus community.
