Dr. Alanna Gillis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology. She came to SLU after receiving her PhD in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her BA from Furman University in Greenville, SC. Her research focuses on inequality in higher education and inclusive pedagogy. She's especially interested in analyzing race, class, and gender inequality among college students. Her innovative teaching practices have won several national awards and are promoted by universities across the country. She regularly teaches intro-level inequality, education and society, sociology of family with community-based learning, sociology of careers, and DEI in Higher Education.
