In recognition of First-Generation College Celebration day on Nov. 8, we're sharing the cover story from the summer issue of St. Lawrence magazine featuring Class of 2023 graduates who forged new frontiers to be among the first in their families to earn a college degree.
Several St. Lawrence alumni were featured by news outlets and recognized for inspiring professional accomplishments. This edition features a humanitarian awardee, recognition by the NHL Hall of Fame, scientists pursuing medical and environmental research, and much more!
Robin Rhodes, director of ESOL and multilingual student academic support in World Languages, Cultures, & Media, gave a presentation at the Symposium on Second Language Writing, Oct. 26, in Tempe, Arizona. Her presentation was titled: Pedagogical Redesign in Higher Education ESOL: Racism, Antiracism, and Multilingual Identity.
Three St. Lawrence University students attended the annual International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), which took place on Oct. 29 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Griffiths Arts Center Room 123 Docta and Simon are two well-known artists whose work has been nourished by political and social activism to keep democracy alive in Senegal. These two urban griots (African storytellers) advocate for freedom and democracy by vesting their aesthetics in some of the cultural traditions of their country.

Weekend of Winning!
It was a winning weekend for the Saints! Starting on Friday, the Women's Hockey team triumphed over RPI with a 4-1 win, while the Men's Hockey team secured a 5-2 victory against Ferris State University. Saturday the Men's Swimming and Diving team defeated Bard College 57-7, and the Women's team won with a score of 121-49. Women's Hockey continued their winning streak with a 6-1 victory against Union College, and the Volleyball team brought home a 3-1 win against SUNY Potsdam.
