The Geology Department at St. Lawrence University has a tradition of providing a field-based geologic education to each of its students. With this in mind, the Geology 320 course – Regional Field Studies – for the first time, took students on a History of Geology field trip to southern England. The trip focused on seeing the geology from which the science was developed – Jurassic Coast, White Cliffs, Tors of Dartmoor and more. The students prepared a guidebook, including biographies and field stops, as a precursor to the trip and initiate and lead field discussion when we are at the site of their guidebook topic. The trip is demanding, intellectually stimulating, and also a lot of fun!
