Jeff Maynes, Director

Jeff earned a B.A. in philosophy and history from Gettysburg College, and his Ph.D. in philosophy from Johns Hopkins University.   He came to St. Lawrence in 2012, and is excited to take on the role as CITA Director.  Among his scholarly interests is a focus on how to teaching critical thinking skills in the face of widespread and problematic cognitive biases.  He regularly teaches a range of classes, including Reasoning, the Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence, the Philosophy of Language, and Environmental Philosophy.  He is also a long time contributor to the First Year Program, and has regularly taught a FYP on Sherlock Holmes, and a FYS on The Good Place and ethics.
