Wu wei is an ancient Chinese concept literally meaning "effortless action." In his book "The Tao of Pooh," Benjamin Hoff shares that "at its highest level, wu wei is indefinable and practically invisible because it has become a reflex action. In the words of Chuang-tse, the mind of wu weiflows like water, reflects like a mirror, and responds like an echo.' "
In the context of this Improv Lab, it simply means we are relying on each other – and paying attention to each other's Inner Nature – to follow a path of musical exploration that is meaningful to us throughout our semester together – and hopefully to you this evening.
