    George W. Karpus ’68 was honored during Laurentian Weekend 2022 for his prolific contributions to St. Lawrence University and its Division III athletics program. As alumni, parents, and others came back to enjoy the weekend celebrations, nearly 200 Laurentians gathered for the naming of the George W. Karpus ’68 Atrium.

    - Griffiths Arts Center Room 123 Each One Inspired artist Grant Wade Jonathan is a Tuscarora-raised beadwork artist and an attorney, who currently works in the EPA's American Indian Environmental Office in New York City.  When he is not assisting the Haudenosaunee in addressing their environmental concerns, he pursues his other passion of Tuscarora raised beadwork design. Join him for a lecture.

    2022 Kathryn Fraser Mackay Memorial Lecture with guest, Dr. Anthony Pinn

    - Sykes Commons Anthony B. Pinn received his BA from Columbia University, Master of Divinity, and Ph.D. in the study of religion from Harvard University. His research interests include religion and culture; humanism; and hip-hop culture. Pinn is the author/editor of over 35 books, including "Terror and Triumph: The Nature of Black Religion" and "The New Disciples."

    Saints Dominate Spring Break Competitions

    The scarlet and brown dominated their spring break competitions as Saints baseball secured wins over Fredonia (15-4), Hamilton (4-2),  Muhlenberg (21-6), and Thomas College (5-4, 6-1) while softball defeated Franklin & Marshall (10-3, 5-3) and Utica (2-6, 4-3). Women’s lacrosse topped Rochester 19-7 in the Liberty League opener after defeating Brockport 15-12 and Plattsburgh 18-7 while men’s lacrosse beat SUNY Cortland 14-8 and Western New England University 12-10. Men’s tennis defeated Bethel 7-2 after securing an 8-1 win over St. Scholastica at the UTSA National Campus while women’s tennis dominated New Paltz 8-1 after beating St. Scholastica 6-3. Women's swimming and diving's Maggie Wenger ’24 competed in several events at the NCAA Championships as Esports secured a 1-0 win over the University of Ottawa in a NACA Conference matchup. Women’s ice hockey’s Lucy Morgan ’23 was named a CCM/AHCA All-American for the 2021-22 season, Sanna Koivumäki ’22 of the women’s squash team has been selected to compete for her home country of Finland in the 2022 European Team Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and Lewis Anderson ’25 was named Second Team All-American by the College Squash Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Saints Skate to ECAC Quarterfinals; Spring Sports Continue

    Following a four-game series against Brown, Saints men’s hockey is advancing to the ECAC Quarterfinals where they’ll take on Quinnipiac beginning Friday, March 11 in Connecticut. After defeating Brown 4-1 on Friday, and falling in a 2-1 in an overtime contest, the Skating Saints secured a 4-3 winner-take-all victory on Sunday. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with women’s lacrosse beating SUNY Oneonta 18-8 and men’s lacrosse defeating SUNY Potsdam 16-5 in their season openers while men’s tennis dominated RIT 8-1. ECAC Hockey announced that for the second consecutive season, Lucy Morgan ’23 is the 2022 MAC Women’s Goaltender of the Year and the Liberty League named women's swimming and diving's Maggie Wenger '24 Rookie of the Year. Alpine skiing's Ava Mattsson '22, Nordic skiing's Emma Strack '25 and Brian Beyerbach '23, and men's track and fields' Timothy Boyce '25 will compete in the NCAA Championships this weekend. Masking is now optional for fully vaccinated individuals attending athletic events and masks are required for unvaccinated individuals when inside athletic facilities.     Federal Grant Supports Commitment to Student Mental Health and Well-Being

    St. Lawrence University has received a three-year, $287,061 grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to support its Comprehensive Care Network (CCN) Project. The project will use evidence-based approaches to improve the identification and treatment of at-risk students and expand access to services that address mental health, suicide prevention, and substance misuse.

    Scarlet and Brown Triumph

    Starting off strong this week the men's golf team took the win with Cooper Evans placing first place at the Clarkson Invitational, his second career title from the Golden Knights. Saints football followed suit with a 14-7 home victory against Norwich University. In women’s soccer, Lilly Stone 26 and Zoe Rogan 27 tallied first career goals, defeating Castleton University and closing the Manchester Cup with a 3-0 win.

    2025 Frank P. Piskor Lecture Featuring Dr. Amanda Oldacre

    - Griffiths 123 Harlan Holladay Lecture Hall In this lecture, Dr. Oldacre will explain how we can use a technique that combines light and electricity, known as photo-electrochemistry, to break down microplastic pollutants. This method uses a light-activated catalyst to help degrade microplastics into harmless products like carbon dioxide and water. The lecture will focus on the assembly, characterization, and stability of the proposed degradation system.

    Saints Sweep the Weekend and Earn National Honors

    • Baseball: The Saints picked up three wins this past week, taking down Vassar 9-4 in the backend of a double header. Sophomore Mike Siano, senior Timothy Connor, and senior Sean Desjardins all recorded two hits. The team also picked up back-to-back wins against Hobart this past Saturday, winning both games 7-3, as senior Michael Hutchins and sophomore Boden Driscoll dominated on the mound.
    • Softball: The Saints won four games this week, recording two doubleheader sweeps against Potsdam and Union. Against Potsdam, they won 4-3 and 5-2, where sophomore Izzy Melanson and first-year Marleigh Monroe had wins in the circle. Against Union, they recorded 9-5, and 8-0 wins, coming back to beat Union in Game 1 of the twin bill.
    • Women’s Lacrosse: The Scarlet and Brown took down Skidmore 10-5 this past Friday, where sophomore Jessica LaPlaca had a career-best eight points. They finished the weekend 1-1.
    • Men’s Lacrosse: In the Route 11 rivalry matchup against Clarkson last Wednesday, the Saints won 9-7 after an electric final quarter where they outscored the Knights 5-1. Last Thursday, sophomore Daniel Mahoney and senior Charlie Miele earned spots on the USILA Team of the Week for their play in the wins against Middlebury and Ithaca.
    • Football: Seven players earned a spot in the 2025 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. Seniors Oskar Baldwin, Matthew Dahill, Joseph O’Neil, Evan Pastino, Cole Salyards, and Dexter Seeley were all named recipients of the achievement.
    • Track and Field: Both teams competed in the Middlebury Invitational this past Saturday. On the men’s side, junior Patrick Russell won the 3000-meter and junior Nick Lyndaker won the 800-meter, and the team consisting of first-year Dylan Keating, sophomore Caleb Young, junior Kris Mellor, and senior Leif Harvey won the 4x400-meter relay. On the women’s side, sophomore Carly Zack took home a win in the 3000-meter run with her time of 12.09.86, and junior Amelia Berthold had personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles.
    • Women’s Golf: Senior Mary Grace McCann and first-year Sadie Cumming both shot 80 to tie for second place in a dual match with Union this past Friday.

    NYC Semester Wraps Up With National Model UN Conference

    To wrap up the New York City semester, St. Lawrence students participated in the National Model United Nations conference. Over five days, our students represented Sweden across ten different committees, engaging in discussions about pressing global issues.     - Various locations University Chorus, with members of the SLU String Orchestra, will present “Rest in Peace,” a music program for the twin religious holidays in November, All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. Concerts are planned for Friday, November 11, at Pickens Hall in Heuvelton, N.Y., at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 12, at Gunnison Memorial Chapel on the St. Lawrence campus at 8 p.m.

    Saints Men's Soccer Secure Liberty League Title; Skating Saints Sweep Legends Weekend

    Saints Men's Soccer are Liberty League Champions once again! The Scarlet and Brown defeated RIT 1-0 in the semifinals on Friday before securing a championship win (3-1) over Skidmore College on Sunday. The team will advance to the NCAA Tournament and details will be announced this week. Saints men's ice hockey swept the competition during Legends Weekend at Appleton with a 3-2 win over RPI on Friday and a 4-2 win over Union on Saturday while women's hockey topped RIT 3-0 on the road. A total of 80 student-athletes earned Liberty League All-Academic honors in recognition of their success in the classroom at St. Lawrence.
