The Saints This Week!

No. 5 nationally-ranked men’s lacrosse team continued their unbeaten start to the season, with a record of 10-0, with two Liberty League wins. They defeated Skidmore, 14-6, on the road, thanks to six goals from Ben Hutchinson '24. The Scarlet and Brown also beat No. 8 ranked Union, 12-6, thanks to four goals from Judge Murphy '24 who tallied his 200th career point during the contest. 

The Saints women’s lacrosse team earned their first two wins of the year, starting off 2-1 in league play. They took down Vassar, 14-7, as three different players tallied hattricks before defeating Bard in an impressive 18-4 victory, where five players scored two or more goals. 

Saints softball returned to the North Country winning three games in style as the team is outperforming their 2023 season record, with a little more than a month still to be played. The team swept cross-town rivals SUNY Canton in a doubleheader, Friday afternoon, as Isabelle Wilson '27, Layne Fritz '26 and Olivia Caporale '26 combined for a no-hitter in the first game. They then split two games with Oswego the next day, running away 9-4 in the second game, setting their record at 8-5. 

The Saints track and field teams hosted the "Saints Ice Breaker" where the men’s team recorded 13 victories, across all events, enroute to a first-place finish. The women’s squad used strong performances in the middle and long-distance events to earn a second-place finish in the field.

Celebrating Our 2026 Scholars! ❤️🤎

Last month, 30 of the top scholars in the class of 2026 gathered at MacAllaster House with President Kate Morris to celebrate their extraordinary academic achievements. They've worked hard to maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher for the last three semesters and we couldn’t be prouder. Congrats to this stellar group of Laurentians! “Digital Storytelling for the Environment” Grant Awarded

The Digital Scholarship team at St. Lawrence University has been awarded a $12K grant from the Northern New York Library Network (NNLYN) to leverage digital storytelling tools and techniques to help students and faculty construct powerful environmental narratives with real-world impacts. The grant supports the purchase of professional production equipment intended for outdoor use, such as light-shaping tools, field-recording microphones, and macro lenses, as well as the creation of new training workshops and related web resources on the fundamentals of environmental storytelling. 

• Women’s Hockey—On the heels of two wins over No. 15 Mercyhurst, graduate student Anna Segedi was named the ECAC Hockey Forward of the Week, presented by Bluebird Hotels, while junior goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordström was awarded MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week honors. Segedi tallied a goal and an assist, and her goal on Saturday was the game-winner and her 100th career point in Scarlet and Brown. Nordström completed the weekend sweep in goal for the Saints, including a shutout 3-0 win on Friday, as she made 45 saves on the weekend.
• Rowing—A pair of Saints’ first-place finishes highlighted the weekend at the Head of the Geneseo for the men’s and women’s rowing teams, with the men’s Novice 8 cruising to first with a time of 19:47.300. The women's Novice 8 coxed by first-year Eden Keeney took first place, besting St. John Fisher, with a time of 21:48.932.
• Men’s Golf—Senior Ben Scholes shot one under par and claimed the individual title, leading men’s golf to a first-place finish at the Skidmore Fall Invitational at the Saratoga Spa State Park Golf Course this weekend. Scholes shot a 71 at the par-72 course to come away with the individual title.
• Men’s Hockey—Senior captain Mason Waite scored with 12.6 seconds in regulation and senior Tomáš Mazura put on the finishing touches scoring in overtime to lift men’s hockey to a 4-3 win over Niagara on Friday night, leading the Saints to a split of their weekend. They are now 3-1-0 on the season.
• Men’s Soccer—Sophomore Baker Diaz scored his second goal in as many games to send men's soccer to a 1-0 win over RIT Saturday. Diaz earned Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week as a result of his outing. St. Lawrence improved to 5-2-3 overall and 2-0-2 in Liberty League play.
• Men’s Cross Country—First-year Kyle Gaffney was men’s cross country’s Liberty League rookie of the week, after performing as the top-performing first-year for St. Lawrence at their dual meet against Clarkson. Sophomore Henry Hagen took first in the event for the Scarlet and Brown.

Northern Lights Shine on St. Lawrence

Masking Policy Update

Academic Affairs and Student Life sent a message to the community on Thursday, March 24 announcing that due to the current declines in active COVID-19 cases on campus and throughout the county, the University face-mask requirement has changed for vaccinated individuals beginning Monday, March 28. Track and Field Teams Win Ice Breaker Open; Spring Sports Continue

The men’s and women’s track and field teams each won the Ice Breaker Open to kick off the outdoor season. The women’s team secured first place in nine events while the men’s team won eight events. Saints women’s lacrosse topped Ithaca College 17-16 while the baseball team defeated Vassar 9-8 and 6-5 and the softball team dominated SUNY Canton 8-0 and 7-3. Saints Secure Weekend Wins, Spring Sports Continue

The Scarlet and Brown dominated the competition this weekend as women's lacrosse defeated Union 10-9 and Skidmore 15-9 while men's lacrosse defeated Skidmore 13-8 after dominating SUNY Plattsburgh 19-4 under the lights last week.  The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with women's tennis beating Vassar 5-4,  Saints baseball securing a pair of wins over Hobart (5-4,12-11), and Saints softball sweeping  SUNY Potsdam (6-5, 6-4) in its home opener last week. During the UVM Quad meet, Emma Palumbo '25 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the women's track and field team while Matt Serrano '26, Matt Abell '13, Erik Geier '23, Timothy Boyce '25, and William Hauf '25 each won events to lead the men's team. Men's rowing opened the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of wins over UVM and a win over Middlebury. Lewis Anderson '25 was named a College Squash Association Second Team All-American for the second consecutive year and Marvin Sibanda '23 was named D3soccer.com's Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-American. An Out of This World Experience

Thanks to a travel grant from the Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS), physics majors Ryan Carvel '24 and Tyler Karasinski '24 are spending this semester studying abroad in New Zealand. While there, they explored the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, and visited the University of Canterbury Mount John Observatory for an evening of stargazing. View photos from their trip on the Off-Campus Study Instagram account.

Men's Soccer Claims Liberty League Title

After defeating RPI 2-1 on Saturday, the No. 5 Saints men’s soccer team toppled Ithaca College 3-1, claiming the Liberty League title and securing the ninth title for the program since 2004 when the conference was formed. The Scarlet and Brown will head to Montclair, N.J., to take on Washington College in the NCAA Tournament, their 23rd NCAA appearance in program history, and fourth time under head coach Mike Toshack. 

Volleyball celebrated a come-from-behind 3-2 win over RIT on Friday to earn a spot in the Liberty League finals, where they fell to Clarkson 3-0 in the championship match on Saturday. Women’s Swimming and Diving defeated Bard College 91-48 while the men’s team topped Bard 61-51 at home on Saturday. Grace Jackson '22 earned Champion High Point Rider honors this weekend as Saints Riding rose to the top as the High Point Team at both the Cazenovia Horse Show and the St. Lawrence Horse Show. Men's Hockey defeated RPI 4-3 as they opened their ECAC slate on the road on Friday.

Fall Student-Athletes Earn Liberty League All-Academic Honors

A total of 78 St. Lawrence fall sport student-athletes earned Liberty League All-Academic honors in their respective sports. To be recognized as a member of the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and enrolled full time with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30.

Celebrating Diwali with Hands-on Learning

Interdisciplinary hands-on learning opportunities define the St. Lawrence liberal arts experience and our students wouldn’t have it any other way! Students recently made diya (small lamps) for Diwali in a collaboration between students in our Religions of South Asia course and students in this semester’s Ceramics class. These courses are being taught by Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Arun Brahmbhatt and Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Art History Rachael Jones. Saints Fall Sports in Full Swing

The fall sports season is well underway as Saints women's soccer shut out the competition this weekend with a 1-0 win over Colby-Sawyer and a 7-0 win over SUNY Potsdam. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued as Emma Palumbo '25 and Timmy Boyce '25 each won the Cardinal Classic 5K during the men's and women's cross country meet in Plattsburgh, and Jimmy King '26 claimed the individual title for Saints men's golf while the 'A' team secured a win to open the season. First-year Molly Jespersen secured the 'B' Flight Singles title during the opening weekend for the women's tennis team while Jenny L'Hommedieu 23 scored her first goal of the season to lead the field hockey team to a 1-0 win over Oneonta. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Building Connections at the Club & Organization Fair

More than 95 student clubs and organizations recently came together for the Club and Organization Fair. Whether they're looking for a place to harmonize with other vocalists, toss a disc with Ultimate enthusiasts, or influence change as a campus leader, this on-campus event is a place for students to share their passions, hobbies, and budding interests. Saints Sweep the Weekend and Earn National Honors

• Baseball: The Saints picked up three wins this past week, taking down Vassar 9-4 in the backend of a double header. Sophomore Mike Siano, senior Timothy Connor, and senior Sean Desjardins all recorded two hits. The team also picked up back-to-back wins against Hobart this past Saturday, winning both games 7-3, as senior Michael Hutchins and sophomore Boden Driscoll dominated on the mound.
• Softball: The Saints won four games this week, recording two doubleheader sweeps against Potsdam and Union. Against Potsdam, they won 4-3 and 5-2, where sophomore Izzy Melanson and first-year Marleigh Monroe had wins in the circle. Against Union, they recorded 9-5, and 8-0 wins, coming back to beat Union in Game 1 of the twin bill.
• Women’s Lacrosse: The Scarlet and Brown took down Skidmore 10-5 this past Friday, where sophomore Jessica LaPlaca had a career-best eight points. They finished the weekend 1-1.
• Men’s Lacrosse: In the Route 11 rivalry matchup against Clarkson last Wednesday, the Saints won 9-7 after an electric final quarter where they outscored the Knights 5-1. Last Thursday, sophomore Daniel Mahoney and senior Charlie Miele earned spots on the USILA Team of the Week for their play in the wins against Middlebury and Ithaca.
• Football: Seven players earned a spot in the 2025 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. Seniors Oskar Baldwin, Matthew Dahill, Joseph O’Neil, Evan Pastino, Cole Salyards, and Dexter Seeley were all named recipients of the achievement.
• Track and Field: Both teams competed in the Middlebury Invitational this past Saturday. On the men’s side, junior Patrick Russell won the 3000-meter and junior Nick Lyndaker won the 800-meter, and the team consisting of first-year Dylan Keating, sophomore Caleb Young, junior Kris Mellor, and senior Leif Harvey won the 4x400-meter relay. On the women’s side, sophomore Carly Zack took home a win in the 3000-meter run with her time of 12.09.86, and junior Amelia Berthold had personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles.
• Women’s Golf: Senior Mary Grace McCann and first-year Sadie Cumming both shot 80 to tie for second place in a dual match with Union this past Friday.

NYC Semester Wraps Up With National Model UN Conference

To wrap up the New York City semester, St. Lawrence students participated in the National Model United Nations conference. Over five days, our students represented Sweden across ten different committees, engaging in discussions about pressing global issues.
