    Academic Affairs and Student Life sent a message to the community on Monday, Feb. 28 announcing that due to the current declines in active COVID-19 cases on campus and throughout the county, the St. Lawrence University face-mask requirement is changing for vaccinated individuals beginning Wednesday, March 2. Read the message and new masking guidelines

    The summer after graduating in 2020, Lucy Hochschartner was driving home from her part-time job at Chipotle when she first got the idea for On the Level, a website and nonprofit organization using technology to help people join the climate movement—empowering them to take actions that align with their interests, skills, and location.

    Never Too Early to Start: Sophomore Boot Camp 2022

    At St. Lawrence, faculty, staff, and alumni use a common refrain when talking with current students about preparing for a rewarding career— “it’s never too early to start.” The Sophomore Career Boot Camp, offered through the Career Connections office, is just one initiative that supports this philosophy.

    Three St. Lawrence students designed and implemented humanitarian projects in Ghana, West Africa, and Cairo, Egypt with the support of Davis Projects for Peace, which funds grassroots projects developed by undergraduate students.

    Saints Earn Liberty League Titles, Head to Championships

    During the Liberty League Championships in Ithaca, men’s track and field’s Erik Geier ’23 won the 60-meter hurdle to secure the Liberty League title while women's track and field's Kathleen Merchant '22 won the shot putAlpine skiing’s Ava Mattsson ’22 is headed to the NCAAs in Park City, Utah following her performance at the UNH Carnival and the men’s ice hockey team is set to compete in the opening round of the conference playoffs after concluding their regular season with a 3-1 win over Yale 3-1 and a 1-1 tie with Brown. During the ECAC Quarterfinals, women’s ice hockey defeated Yale 4-2 but ultimately fell to the No. 7 ranked team. The riding team won its 12th straight Regional Championship Title by finishing the season with the highest point total from the regular season and women’s tennis opened conference play with a 6-3 win over Union.  Women’s squash dominated Wesleyan 9-0 at the CSA Team Nationals but fell to Middlebury College in the final round. During the Liberty League Semifinals, women’s basketball defeated Skidmore (64-60) and Vassar(80-63) but fell to Ithaca in the championship game on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores.     SLU Close the Loop

    St. Lawrence students are passionate about making sustainable choices accessible to everyone.  SLU Close the Loop, an initiative to reduce waste by fostering an exchange and swap culture on campus, hosted its first-ever clothing swap where students had a chance to change up their closets and find new style inspiration while helping to reduce waste on campus. View photos of the event on the St. Lawrence Instagram account

    Faculty and Staff Honored, Awarded Promotions at Annual Convocation Ceremony

    To mark the beginning of a new academic year and celebrate the contributions of all members of the St. Lawrence community, the University honored several employees with awards for their outstanding service and recognized a number of faculty who earned tenure and promotions during their annual Convocation event. The ceremony was held outside in the Herring-Cole Grove on Wednesday, August 25.

    St. Lawrence Welcomes Class of 2026

    The Class of 2026 are leaders in and out of the classroom. They’re artists and performers, entrepreneurs, athletes, and advocates. Even before they matriculated on August 21, 2022, they set the bar high for future Laurentians. They came to St. Lawrence with a cumulative four-year GPA of 92.3—a record for an incoming class.

    Financing the Future

    Earlier this year, St. Lawrence University received its largest George I. Alden Trust grant award to create a new, state-of-the-art Bloomberg Finance Lab in Owen D. Young Library (ODY) in support of the new finance major.

    Laurentians Inspire: Alaska Boat Captain Casts a Net on Sustainability

    This summer Jessica Normandeau ’15 set sail on her newest business venture: captain of a 32-foot vessel in Bristol Bay, Alaska. With grueling 18-hour workdays and a lot of creative problem solving, she’s part of a small percentage of women sustainably harvesting fish from the world’s largest, completely wild, sockeye salmon run.

    - Gulick Theatre, Noble Center Science+ Feminism+ Theatre: What could be better? Auditions for the Fall 2022 University Theatre production of "Silent Sky" by Lauren Gunderson and directed by Jen Thomas will be held on Thursday, September 1 from 7-9 p.m. in Gulick Theatre.     Richard F. Brush Art Gallery Presents: Inspiring, Controversial, Obey!

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery presents work by one of the most well-known contemporary American street artists, Shepard Fairey on display from Wednesday, August 10 through Saturday, September 3. In celebration of the exhibition, the community is invited to participate in a sticker design contest. Submissions are due Thursday, September 1 at noon.

    Class of 2020 Celebrated at Commencement

    ​​​​​​​It was 442 days in the making, but members of St. Lawrence University’s Class of 2020 were finally able to come back together for the first time since March 2020 for their long-awaited commencement ceremony. ​​​​​​​More than 350 graduates returned to campus for the ceremony held on Sunday, August 1, in Newell Field House, with nearly 1,000 people in attendance.

    Weekend Wins for Saints Athletics; Winter Sports Continue

    Saints Women’s Swimming and Diving secured their fourth straight dual meet victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday after defeating SUNY Potsdam on Friday, while Women’s Ice Hockey celebrated three key ECAC Hockey victories last week against Princeton (4-1), Union (5-1) and RPI (4-0). The weekend wins continued with the men’s and women’s track and field teams winning their respective home invitationals against SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Potsdam, while the men’s ice hockey team defeated Dartmouth 3-1. Women’s Squash swept Georgetown 9-0 following a 5-4 victory over Dickinson, while Men’s Squash defeated Dickinson 7-2 after topping Brown 8-1 last week. Men’s Basketball secured a 78-52 win over Clarkson while Women’s Basketball defeated William Smith 84-69 after securing a 61-43 win over RIT and topping Clarkson 54-36 earlier in the week. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    The Saints This Week!

    No. 5 nationally-ranked men’s lacrosse team continued their unbeaten start to the season, with a record of 10-0, with two Liberty League wins. They defeated Skidmore, 14-6, on the road, thanks to six goals from Ben Hutchinson '24. The Scarlet and Brown also beat No. 8 ranked Union, 12-6, thanks to four goals from Judge Murphy '24 who tallied his 200th career point during the contest. 

    The Saints women’s lacrosse team earned their first two wins of the year, starting off 2-1 in league play. They took down Vassar, 14-7, as three different players tallied hattricks before defeating Bard in an impressive 18-4 victory, where five players scored two or more goals. 

    Saints softball returned to the North Country winning three games in style as the team is outperforming their 2023 season record, with a little more than a month still to be played. The team swept cross-town rivals SUNY Canton in a doubleheader, Friday afternoon, as Isabelle Wilson '27, Layne Fritz '26 and Olivia Caporale '26 combined for a no-hitter in the first game. They then split two games with Oswego the next day, running away 9-4 in the second game, setting their record at 8-5. 

    The Saints track and field teams hosted the "Saints Ice Breaker" where the men’s team recorded 13 victories, across all events, enroute to a first-place finish. The women’s squad used strong performances in the middle and long-distance events to earn a second-place finish in the field.

    Last month, 30 of the top scholars in the class of 2026 gathered at MacAllaster House with President Kate Morris to celebrate their extraordinary academic achievements. They've worked hard to maintain a GPA of 3.75 or higher for the last three semesters and we couldn’t be prouder. Congrats to this stellar group of Laurentians!     Weekend of Hoops!

    It was a sweep of regional rival Clarkson as both women’s and men’s basketball came up with victories in the final doubleheader of 2023 at Burkman Gymnasium Wednesday. The women's team registered their second conference win of 2023-24 with a score of 73-61 over the Golden Knights. The win pushes their record back above .500 at 2-1 and improves their overall record to 2-5. The men’s team never trailed in either of their games this week—they beat Clarkson 73-66 then also took a victory against SUNY Geneseo in non-conference play 79-58. They are now tied for third in the Liberty League with a 6-3 record.

    102 Years of Candlelight

    For nearly a century, Gunnison Memorial Chapel has been a beacon of unity and reflection. The chapel was illuminated by 250 candles and filled with our Laurentian community, who gathered from near and far, for the 102nd Annual Candlelight Service. This beloved tradition marks the end of the fall semester and fills us with hope for the year ahead. Let’s carry on the spirit of togetherness and send out radiant wishes for a bright 2024.     Lost and Found: A&AH Senior Year Exhibition

    - Richard F. Brush Art Gallery Celebrate members of the Class of 2022 during the final week of the "Lost and Found" is a Senior Year Experience exhibition. This collection of artwork focuses on self-discovery and self-reflection and that was created at the edge of the precipice before true adulthood and a transitory state that can be simultaneously confusing, frightening, and exciting.

    Commencement Weekend 2022

    - Congratulations St. Lawrence Class of 2022! The St. Lawrence community will come together in a campus-wide celebration of the graduating class beginning Friday, May 20 through Sunday, May 22. A livestream of the commencement ceremony will begin Sunday, May 22 at 9:50 a.m.

    Saints Lacrosse End Seasons at NCAAs; Scarlet and Brown Earn All-League Honors

    After a record-breaking season and first NCAA appearance in over three decades, Saints Women’s Lacrosse concluded its spring season during a second-round matchup against Tufts. The No. 10 Saints Men’s Lacrosse defeated Cortland 15-14 in the second round of the NCAA tournament but fell to Bowdin in the third round. This week, the men’s and women’s track and field teams will head to Pennsylvania to compete in the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Conference. In recognition of their stellar spring sports performances, several members of the Scarlet and Brown earned All-League Honors. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Spring Student-Athletes Earn Liberty League All-Academic Honors

    A total of 109 St. Lawrence spring sport student-athletes earned Liberty League All-Academic honors, recognizing their all-star performances in the classroom. To be recognized as a member of the All-Academic Team a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30.

    Saints Winter Sports in Full Swing

    While the men's and women's cross country teams concluded the fall season with individual and team appearances at the NCAA National Championships, the winter sports season continues in full swing for the Saints. Over the weekend, men's basketball defeated SUNY Canton 68-52 and SUNY Potsdam 71-62  after beating Plattsburgh 77-65 earlier in the week.  Women's basketball topped Plattsburgh 60-58 while men's squash opened its season with a 9-0 shutout over Brown University on Sunday.     St. Lawrence Celebrates International Education Week

    During International Education Week, students across campus gathered to eat, dance, create, and learn while celebrating the many different cultures represented at St. Lawrence. From Diwali, the Festival of Lights, dance workshops, and language lessons, to international art and sushi-making classes, there was no shortage of opportunities for students to share their cultures and learn new things about our community.     St. Lawrence University honored several employees with awards for their outstanding service and recognized a number of faculty who earned tenure and promotions during their annual Convocation event, which was held outside in the Herring-Cole Grove on Wednesday, August 25.

    St. Lawrence University announced the promotion of several faculty members at the start of the 2021-22 academic year. The promotions were celebrated during the University’s annual Convocation, which was held Wednesday, August 25. All promotions are effective September 1, 2021.

    President Morris, Higher Education Leaders Pen Op-Ed in Support of Increased Pell Grant Funding

    St. Lawrence University President Kathryn A. Morris joined together with two local college presidents and the president of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities to pen an opinion piece calling upon the U.S. Congress to support doubling the Pell Grant for qualified students.

    As part of a series of meetings to hear about and discuss regional economic issues, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s President and CEO, John C. Williams, will give prepared remarks and take part in a moderated discussion at an event hosted by St. Lawrence University on Wednesday, September 8. The event is free and open to students, faculty, and staff at St. Lawrence and area colleges, as well as local business leaders and the general public.

    Brush Gallery Receives Strategic Planning Assistance Award

    The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery received a 2021 Strategic Planning Assistance award from Documentary Heritage & Preservation Services for New York (DHPSNY) to develop a three-year strategic plan regarding its exhibitions, permanent collection of art objects and cultural artifacts, educational programs and activities, staff training, and facilities.
