On Friday, April 22 Academic Affairs and Student Life sent a message to the community recommending wearing face masks in all public indoor spaces in light of the increase in COVID cases in our region. Read the Message. 

Saints Secure First Place Finishes; Spring Sports Continue

The Saints track and field teams secured several first-place wins at the Cortland Classic over the weekend. Lambert ’22 won the decathlon while Mike Skutt ’24 won the 10k to lead the men’s track and field team and Oliva Watson ’23 won the 5k while Olivia Bernier ’24 won the 10k to lead the women’s team. The wins continued with Saints Softball defeating RIT 6-4 on the road after dominating SUNY Potsdam 10-2 and 7-3 while baseball secured a 13-6 win over Clarkson in a Route 11matchup. Men’s lacrosse defeated RPI 11-7 after beating Clarkson 17-6 while women’s lacrosse dominated Vassar 16-8 after topping Clarkson 18-16. Saints Football’s Kyle Frimel ’22 was selected as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete and several members of the football team were named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society, recognizing student-athlete academic excellence. Scarlet, Brown, and Green for Sustainability

Last weekend St. Lawrence hosted the North Country Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair in collaboration with The Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley, Paul Smith’s College, Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County, the municipalities of Canton and Potsdam, and the Local Living Venture. The event, which aimed to inspire and empower attendees to fostering a culture of sustainability across the North Country and beyond, combined gallery exhibits with discussions and welcomed author of  the book"Braiding Sweetgrass" Robin Wall-Kimmerer as the keynote speaker.  View photos from the event on the St. Lawrence Instagram account.

Stand with Ukraine Community Discussion

Saints Skate to ECAC Quarterfinals; Spring Sports Continue

Following a four-game series against Brown, Saints men’s hockey is advancing to the ECAC Quarterfinals where they’ll take on Quinnipiac beginning Friday, March 11 in Connecticut. After defeating Brown 4-1 on Friday, and falling in a 2-1 in an overtime contest, the Skating Saints secured a 4-3 winner-take-all victory on Sunday. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with women’s lacrosse beating SUNY Oneonta 18-8 and men’s lacrosse defeating SUNY Potsdam 16-5 in their season openers while men’s tennis dominated RIT 8-1. ECAC Hockey announced that for the second consecutive season, Lucy Morgan ’23 is the 2022 MAC Women’s Goaltender of the Year and the Liberty League named women's swimming and diving's Maggie Wenger '24 Rookie of the Year. Alpine skiing's Ava Mattsson '22, Nordic skiing's Emma Strack '25 and Brian Beyerbach '23, and men's track and fields' Timothy Boyce '25 will compete in the NCAA Championships this weekend. Peterson '24 Wins Silver at 2022 Winter Paralympic Games

Sydney Peterson'24 , a member of the Saints' Nordic ski team, won a silver medal in the women's long-distance classical technique during her 2022 Winter Paralympic Beijing Games debut in Beijing, China. Read about Sydney's victory.

Updated Spectator Policy

St. Lawrence Athletics remains committed to adhering to CDC, St. Lawrence County, NCAA SSI, and St. Lawrence University recommendations and protocols. Masking is now optional for fully vaccinated individuals attending athletic events and masks are required for unvaccinated individuals when inside athletic facilities. This policy extends to all home Saints athletic events. Read the spectator policy on SaintsAthletics.com.

Saints Secure Spring Break Wins

The Scarlet and Brown returned home after dominating Spring Break competitions in Florida and Maryland last week. Saints baseball beat St. Olaf College 6-1 and Union 2-1, 8-5 while men's tennis defeated Goucher College 6-3 and Hope College 7-2 and women's tennis topped Luther College 5-4 and George Fox University 8-1. Over the weekend, Saints softball dominated Keuka College 13-2 as men's lacrosse defeated Western New England University 14-9 and women's lacrosse beat Ithaca 12-14 after defeating Stevenson University 11-10 earlier in the week. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Track and Field Teams Secure Ice Broken Open Titles; Spring Sports Continue

The Saints track and field teams are continuing a winning streak after securing team titles at Ice Broken Open on Saturday. The women's team won 12 events and the men's team won 9 events during the home meet against Castleton, Clarkson, Herkimer, NVU-Johnson, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam. The weekend wins continued with the men’s and women’s tennis teams each dominating Bard 9-0 while men’s lacrosse defeated Ithaca 14-10 and women’s lacrosse beat Bard 20-8. Baseball defeated Ithaca 6-2 after beating SUNY Poly 2-0 last week while Esports advanced to the Elite 8 in the Teemo Cup after securing a 2-0 win over Milligan University. After winning its 11th-straight Regional Championship,  four members of Saints riding will advance to Zones on April 9. Eleven skiers from the Alpine and Nordic ski teams were honored by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA) for having earned National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team honors for the 2022 season while six members of the men's and women's track and field teams earned all-region honors for the indoor season, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Masking Policy Update

Academic Affairs and Student Life sent a message to the community on Thursday, March 24 announcing that due to the current declines in active COVID-19 cases on campus and throughout the county, the University face-mask requirement has changed for vaccinated individuals beginning Monday, March 28. Track and Field Teams Win Ice Breaker Open; Spring Sports Continue

The men’s and women’s track and field teams each won the Ice Breaker Open to kick off the outdoor season. The women’s team secured first place in nine events while the men’s team won eight events. Saints women’s lacrosse topped Ithaca College 17-16 while the baseball team defeated Vassar 9-8 and 6-5 and the softball team dominated SUNY Canton 8-0 and 7-3. On Saturday, our community came together to celebrate all of the people, traditions, and cultures that make St. Lawrence such a rewarding place to live and learn. Men's Soccer Claims Liberty League Title

After defeating RPI 2-1 on Saturday, the No. 5 Saints men’s soccer team toppled Ithaca College 3-1, claiming the Liberty League title and securing the ninth title for the program since 2004 when the conference was formed. The Scarlet and Brown will head to Montclair, N.J., to take on Washington College in the NCAA Tournament, their 23rd NCAA appearance in program history, and fourth time under head coach Mike Toshack. 

Volleyball celebrated a come-from-behind 3-2 win over RIT on Friday to earn a spot in the Liberty League finals, where they fell to Clarkson 3-0 in the championship match on Saturday. Women’s Swimming and Diving defeated Bard College 91-48 while the men’s team topped Bard 61-51 at home on Saturday. Grace Jackson '22 earned Champion High Point Rider honors this weekend as Saints Riding rose to the top as the High Point Team at both the Cazenovia Horse Show and the St. Lawrence Horse Show. Men's Hockey defeated RPI 4-3 as they opened their ECAC slate on the road on Friday.

Fall Student-Athletes Earn Liberty League All-Academic Honors

A total of 78 St. Lawrence fall sport student-athletes earned Liberty League All-Academic honors in their respective sports. To be recognized as a member of the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or higher in class standing and enrolled full time with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30.

Celebrating Diwali with Hands-on Learning

Interdisciplinary hands-on learning opportunities define the St. Lawrence liberal arts experience and our students wouldn’t have it any other way! Students recently made diya (small lamps) for Diwali in a collaboration between students in our Religions of South Asia course and students in this semester’s Ceramics class. These courses are being taught by Assistant Professor of Religious Studies Arun Brahmbhatt and Visiting Assistant Professor of Art and Art History Rachael Jones. Conversation, Contemplation, and Transformation 

The St. Lawrence community recently came together in recognition of Diversity and Inclusion Week by focusing on fostering conversation, reflecting on identity, and celebrating many aspects of intersectionality and diversity. The week-long celebration featured acclaimed musician and race relations activist Daryl Davis and Buffalo State College Historian Steve Peraza ’06, who has done extensive research into the life and legacy of 1933 St. Lawrence alum Jeffrey Worthington Campbell. Saints Secure Titles, Kick Off Spring Seasons

During the CSA Individual Nationals Saints men's squash player Lewis Anderson '25 secured the Molloy East division title.  The sophomore started the title match strong, winning the opening game 11-7, leveling the second 1-1, and dominating 11-4, 11-5 to secure the title. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with several Saints kicking off the spring season as men's lacrosse beat SUNY Potsdam 19-8 and women's tennis swept SUNY Geneseo 9-0. During the AARTFC Regional meet, Alli Sibold '22 won the mile and several Saints secured personal best times. After a high-stakes matchup, men's basketball concluded its season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament against the University of Mary Washington. Skating Saints Charles W. Appleton II head coach Brent Brekke has been named a finalist for ECAC Hockey's Coach of the Year Award. The winner of the award will be announced on Thursday, March 16. Saints Riding Named Reserve Champs; Spring Sports Continue

The riding team is headed to the IHSA Nationals after being named the Reserve Champions at the IHSA Zone II Finals on Saturday. Following the show, St. Lawrence University President Kathryn Morris presented the Saints with the Reserve Champion trophy. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints Softball defeating Union (7-6, 6-3) after dominating Wells (21-0, 25-0) and SUNY Plattsburgh (11-4) while Saints Baseball secured wins over RIT (6-5) and SUNY Canton (11-7). Student Talent Takes the Stage

St. Lawrence student talent was on full display during University Theatre's recent production of  "30 Plays from Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind (30 Neo-Futurist Plays in 60 Minutes)!” Each performance featured 60 small plays performed in random order and incorporating audience interaction, ensuring no performance was ever exactly the same. Saints Secure Weekend Wins, Spring Sports Continue

The Scarlet and Brown dominated the competition this weekend as women's lacrosse defeated Union 10-9 and Skidmore 15-9 while men's lacrosse defeated Skidmore 13-8 after dominating SUNY Plattsburgh 19-4 under the lights last week.  The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with women's tennis beating Vassar 5-4,  Saints baseball securing a pair of wins over Hobart (5-4,12-11), and Saints softball sweeping  SUNY Potsdam (6-5, 6-4) in its home opener last week. During the UVM Quad meet, Emma Palumbo '25 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase for the women's track and field team while Matt Serrano '26, Matt Abell '13, Erik Geier '23, Timothy Boyce '25, and William Hauf '25 each won events to lead the men's team. Men's rowing opened the spring portion of its schedule with a pair of wins over UVM and a win over Middlebury. Lewis Anderson '25 was named a College Squash Association Second Team All-American for the second consecutive year and Marvin Sibanda '23 was named D3soccer.com's Midfielder of the Year and a First Team All-American. An Out of This World Experience

Thanks to a travel grant from the Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS), physics majors Ryan Carvel '24 and Tyler Karasinski '24 are spending this semester studying abroad in New Zealand. While there, they explored the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, and visited the University of Canterbury Mount John Observatory for an evening of stargazing. View photos from their trip on the Off-Campus Study Instagram account. 

Weekend Victories for the Saints

Over the weekend, Saints women's tennis wrapped its regular season with a 7-2 win over William Smith after dominating Ithaca 7-2. The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's tennis defeating Ithaca 8-1 on the road while men's rowing Varsity 8 placed first at the Skidmore Sprints. During the University of Rochester Alumni Meet, Nicholas Lyndaker '26 won the 1500m, Michael Skutt '24 won the 5000m, George Gowdy '23 won the 10,000m, and Eric Geier '23 won the 110m hurdles for the men's track and field team while Haylei Coolican '23 won the 5000m for the women's team. Last week, the Saints secured local rival wins as women's lacrosse topped Clarkson 15-12 and softball beat Potsdam 6-4. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Kaleidoscope 2023

The St. Lawrence community filled Eben Holden last week in celebration of Kaleidoscope, the annual showcase of international fare, from traditional foods, music, and dancing to spoken word, and other presentations by our talented students—closing out an eventful World Languages Week!
