Saints XC Qualify for NCAA Championships, Scarlet and Brown Dominate Weekend Matchups

Following stellar seasons, Saints Women's Cross Country earned an at-large bid to the 2022 NCAA DIII Championships and Timothy Boyce '25 and Nick Lyndaker '26 will compete as individuals in the men's championships in Lansing, Michigan on November 19. Saints Swimming and Diving dominated the competition on the road this weekend as the women's team secured a 193-66 victory over Oswego and a 192-74 win over William Smith while the men's team defeated Hobart 126-33. The wins continued with Football topping Buffalo 31-7 and women's basketball defeating Husson 73-63. After defeating Roger Williams 5-4 on a penalty kick and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament Saint men's soccer concluded its fall season against Amherst on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Stress Less Week

Last week Wellness Education sponsored the second annual Stress-Less Week, an initiative started by Active Minds, one of the leading nonprofits dedicated to promoting mental health among young adults. The campus-wide, week-long event included stress management tips, resources, and support through mindful programming: fireside chats with a counselor; managing academic stress with the Academic Advising team; Wellness Zones chair massages with a licensed massage therapist, crafting custom self-care kits; and of course, closing the week with Pet De-Stress. View photos from Stress-Less Week on the St. Lawrence Instagram account.

Coaches Reach Milestone Wins, Athletes Receive Honors 

• Coaching: Two longtime St. Lawrence coaches hit milestone wins in a 24-hour period last weekend. First, women’s hockey head coach Chris Wells recorded his 300th win in a triumph over Union on January 10. Then, men’s basketball head coach Chris Downs reached his 400th victory by beating Bard on January 11. Both coaches have spent their head coaching careers at St. Lawrence, and all their victories have come from the Scarlet and Brown. 
• Men’s Track and Field: Junior Nick Lyndaker took victory in the mile run at the Utica Winter Opener on Friday, earning Liberty League Athlete of the Week honors. Lyndaker posted the seventh-highest time in the mile run nationally, with a time of 4:15.01. 
• Swimming: Both the men’s and women’s swim teams secured victories Friday, with the women sending off their seniors by beating SUNY Potsdam 124–59, and the men drowning the Bears with an 85-56 victory. 
• Women’s Hockey: Two players received national recognition last week. Junior goaltender Emma-Sofie Nordstrom was named one of 35 goaltenders added to the Hockey Commissioners Association Goalie of the Year "Watch List" for 2025. Nordstrom also received her third MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week honor last week after recording 54 saves in two wins. Graduate student Sarah Thompson was selected as one of 14 finalists for the 2025 Hockey Humanitarian Award. The award, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary season, is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen—a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to their team but also to their community through leadership in volunteerism. 
• Squash: Three athletes had significant weekly award nods in the Liberty League for the period ending January 12. First-year Gregory Malsang was the men’s squash performer of the week. Malsang led the Saints to a 3-0 week from the number one spot in the lineup going 3-0. The first-year was a dominant force from that spot, winning all three matches 3-0 against opposition from Hobart, Brown, and Wesleyan. First-years Miguel Posada Villa and Angel Otshabeng took Rookie of the Week honors in those categories. 
• Alpine Skiing: Junior Alec Nolan and senior Kobe Villeneuve recorded career-best back-to-back finishes to lead the Alpine ski team in the slalom on day two of the Bates College Carnival at Sunday River on January 11. Nolan clocked in with a two-run time of 1:45.13 to finish 17th, while Villeneuve finished in 1:45.24, good for 18th.

Scarlet and Brown Triumph

Starting off strong this week the men's golf team took the win with Cooper Evans placing first place at the Clarkson Invitational, his second career title from the Golden Knights. Saints football followed suit with a 14-7 home victory against Norwich University. In women’s soccer, Lilly Stone ’26 and Zoe Rogan ’27 tallied first career goals, defeating Castleton University and closing the Manchester Cup with a 3-0 win.

During this US Open season, we’d like to congratulate our very own tennis champ Nathan Turtledove ’23, who was presented with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s prestigious 2023 Ann Lebedeff Leadership Award as endowed by Billie Jean King at a banquet in New York City on Aug. 26. Saints Can't Stop, Won't Stop Winning 🥇

Women’s Hockey: First-year Rylan Haslam scored back-to-back goals in the third period to lift St. Lawrence to a 3-2 comeback win over Union on Saturday, completing a weekend sweep. The Saints also earned a 3-2 victory over RPI on Friday.

Men’s Hockey: Sophomore Cayden Casey and first-years Sam LeDrew and Cooper Pierson each found the net as St. Lawrence defeated the University of Toronto, 3-2, in exhibition play Saturday night at Appleton Arena.

Men’s Soccer: Senior Ryan Campbell and junior Eric Edmonds both scored to lead the Saints to a 2-1 road win at RPI on Saturday in Troy, N.Y. St. Lawrence improved to 6-8 overall and 4-4 in Liberty League play.

Women’s Soccer: Senior Meredith Donahue scored the game’s only goal, while sophomore Reagan Murphy posted a shutout in net as St. Lawrence earned a 1-0 Senior Day win over RPI. The victory moved the Saints into fifth place in the Liberty League standings as they chase a playoff spot.

Men’s Rowing: The Novice 8 crew earned a first-place finish at the Head of the Fish on Saturday in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. They finished in 11:55.835, beating boats from UMass, Rhode Island, Middlebury, and Boston College.

Women’s Rowing: The Varsity 8 led the Saints at the Head of the Fish in Saratoga Springs on Saturday, recording the top women’s finish of the day. They placed 13th overall with a time of 13:01.579.
