Saints Dominate Weekend Competitions

This weekend, Saints football dominated Castelton 42-6 while women's ice hockey defeated Providence 5-2 on the road. The wins continued with men's soccer securing a 2-1 win over SUNY Cortland while women's soccer topped Union 1-0 and the field hockey team secured a 4-0 win over Utica. Saints volleyball started their Liberty League Campaign with a 3-1 win over Union while Saints men's track and field won their home Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational. Last week, Sam Lyman '25 picked up a first-place win as the men's golf team claimed the team title at the SUNY Canton Invitational. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Celebrating United World Colleges Day

Last week members of the St. Lawrence community came together in celebration of United World Colleges (UWC) Day. The annual global event highlights the strength and diversity of the UWC movement and its mission for a more peaceful and sustainable future and coincides with the United Nations’ International Day of Peace. St. Lawrence UWC scholars spent the evening attending events that speak to this year’s theme of “Peace Begins With Us” and reflected on what being effective changemakers looks like. Photo credit: Nancy Glennon ’23. Saints Track & Field Teams Win Ice Broken Open

It was a great weekend to be a Saint as the men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their respective outdoor seasons by winning the Ice Broken Open against Plattsburgh, Herkimer, Potsdam, Mohawk Valley, and Clarkson. The home wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's tennis dominating RIT 8-1, women's tennis shutting out RIT 9-0, and men's lacrosse defeating St. John Fisher 20-11 after securing a 12-10 victory over Ithaca. Saints Secure Wins to Kick Off the Fall Season

Saints Men’s Golf secured its first win of the season with a combined score of 602 at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course, marking the first victory for first-year Head Coach Dave Clausen at St. Lawrence. Gabe Ward ’27 finished as the tournament runner-up with a combined score of 147, earning him the Saints Athlete of the Week honors. Mary Grace McCann ’25 led the women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the St. Lawrence Invitational, placing third individually with a combined score of 157 (77, 80). Sadie Cumming ’28 also performed well, finishing 11th with a score of 169 (84, 85) in her collegiate debut. The winning streak for the Scarlet and Brown continued as Nick Lyndaker '26 secured a first-place finish at the Plattsburgh 5K, with a time of 16:11.4, propelling the Saints Men’s Cross Country team to the top of the leaderboard. Avery Blanchard ’28 led the women’s cross country team to a first-place finish with a time of 19:28.0 while Charlotte Blake ’27 and Adriana Cecchetelli ’26 followed closely, finishing in second (19:50.8) and third (20:02.1), respectively.  At the Mary Hosking Invitational, Molly Jespersen ’26 advanced to the A draw final for Saints Women’s Tennis. She defeated RIT 8-6 in the semifinal match before falling to the University of Rochester.  Saints Field Hockey will celebrate its 50th anniversary with alumni and friends during the home opener on Saturday, September 7, at 7 p.m. against SUNY Oswego.

Campus is buzzing with excitement and vibrant with scarlet and brown. From pre-orientation trips, move-in, and matriculation, to the FYP Cup, the Adirondack dinner, and the first day of classes, the Fall 2024 semester is officially underway at St. Lawrence. Saints Secure Overtime Wins, Fall Season Continues 

•  Football—Junior Clayton Fogler landed a 38-yard field goal on the final play of overtime to power football to a 27-24 win over Union Saturday afternoon at Leckonby Stadium. The win marks the first win over Union since 2016 and the first overtime win for the Saints since 2007.
• Women’s Golf—Senior Mary Grace McCann claimed the individual win to lead women's golf at the Union Fall Invitational at the Mohawk Golf Course in Schenectady. McCann shot an 80 to tie for second place with Union after round one on Saturday. She then shot a 78 on Sunday to finish the weekend with a 158 to claim the individual title and first-place finish.
• Field Hockey—Junior Caroline Hamilton had the game-winning goal in the final minute of double overtime to cap off field hockey’s 3-2 comeback win over Vassar Saturday. St. Lawrence has now won four straight games and is on top of the Liberty League standings.
• Men’s Soccer—Senior George Charalambous earned his fifth consecutive clean sheet, making nine saves as the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw. The netminder's work between the posts, along with strong defensive tactics from the Saints, has led to the Scarlet and Brown not conceding since their 1-1 draw against SUNY Oneonta on Saturday, September 7.
• Men’s Hockey—The Saints went 2-0 on the weekend, earning victories over RIT and Canisius. Senior Greg Lapointe’s OT winner lifted the Skating Saints past the Tigers 3-2 on Saturday. Sunday’s game provided some adversity for St. Lawrence, as they went down 2-0 to the Golden Griffins in the opening period. The Saints then scored five unanswered goals, including four in the second period, leading to a 5-2 win and a perfect 2-0-0 weekend. Sophomore men’s hockey goaltender Mason Kucenski was named MAC Goaltending Goalie of the Week and first-year Isaac Tremblay was named the Bitcoin Rookie of the Week, as announced by the ECAC office on Tuesday morning. Kucenski earned the weekly award after going 2-0-0 on the weekend picking up his first two career collegiate wins against RIT and Canisius. Tremblay picked up his first career point with an assist on St. Lawrence's first goal against Canisius, then tallied his first career goal in the second period to tie up the game and help spark the Saints' five unanswered goals en route to the victory.

Peak Weekend 2024

One weekend, 46 peaks, and countless adventures! For over 40 years, St. Lawrence students of all hiking abilities have taken on the Adirondack High Peaks for Peak Weekend with the Outing Club. This tradition unites generations of Laurentians, which was especially true this year when a group of current students ran into three alums of the first-ever Peak Weekend on the trail during their annual reunion hike in the ADKs (photos three and four).
