Ashlee Downing-Duke Receives Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award

During the annual College Student Personnel Association of New York State, Inc. (CSPA-NYS) Conference, Ashlee Downing-Duke, senior associate director of campus activities & residential engagement, received the Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award. Presented to an individual or group that demonstrates competency and commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education, the award recognizes promotion of cultural awareness through education, celebration, open dialogue, and advocacy.

Happy Birthday, Owen D. Young

Sunday, October 27th marks Owen D. Young’s 150th birthday. The main University library, named in his honor, reflects Young's life of work for St. Lawrence and his love of books. To celebrate his birthday and learn about his legacy, Laurentians are encouraged to explore the campus space that bears his name. 

Saints Shut Out the Competition and Break Records

Men’s Soccer—The team went 1-0-1 this weekend, including an impressive draw in a wild second half against No. 10 nationally ranked Vassar. The Brewers, ranked first in the Liberty League, held a 3-1 lead before sophomore Henry Brown’s brace led a furious St. Lawrence comeback. That resulted in a 3-3 draw Friday. The Saints then downed Bard 4-1. They are currently 6-2-4 on the year and 3-0-3 in conference play, good enough for second overall.

Women’s Hockey—Senior Abby Hustler tallied a goal and three assists, while four other Saints scored, as the then seventh-ranked women's hockey team had a 5-0 shutout win over Vermont Saturday afternoon in Burlington. That led the Saints to a split of the weekend, and they advanced to sixth overall in the USCHO poll.

Men’s Cross Country—Junior Nick Lyndaker's historic fourth-place finish at the Conn College Invitational helped the men's cross country team achieve an eighth-place finish among a field of 35 teams. Lyndaker's time of 24:20.0 at the 8 kilometer race is the fastest time recorded by a Saint since 2011, and is the fastest time on record for any men’s cross country athlete at a non-NCAA event.

Men’s Hockey—The team also split their weekend, with their victory coming over Ferris State in emphatic fashion. They took an 8-0 victory Saturday. Senior Greg Lapointe led the way with a hat trick and a pair of assists for five points, while seniors Mason Waite (1-3-4), and Tomáš Mazura (0-4-4) each tallied four points. Sophomore Mason Kucenski earned his first career shutout in the win stopping all 30 shots he faced. Waite and Kucenski received nods for ECAC Hockey Defender of the Week, and MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week respectively.

Women’s Soccer—Sophomore Zoe Rogan led the way with two goals and an assist, while senior Grace Mochnal tacked on a goal and an assist as women's soccer defeated Bard 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, moving to 6-6-1 on the season.

Exploring Forensic Anthropology with Professor Pitre

Associate Professor and Chair of Anthropology Mindy Pitre and her students recently excavated artificial skeletal remains during their hands-on Forensic Anthropology class. This simulation allowed them to gain experience in recovering, identifying, and analyzing human remains, simulating a real-world scenario like a mass disaster site or a human rights investigation.
