Trio of Wins
St. Lawrence University athletics had a strong week with wins in men's basketball, football, and men's hockey. On Wednesday, the men's basketball team started their season with an impressive 87-53 victory over SUNY Potsdam on the road. On Saturday, the football team traveled to Buffalo State and earned a 30-7 win. Also on Saturday, the men's hockey team hosted RPI and overcame an early 3-0 deficit to rally for a 6-3 win at home.

We’d like to highlight a new collection featured in ODY Library containing photographs, letters, and other objects gathered by former university registrar and World War II Communications Officer Helen “Tommie” Whalen. In this role, Tommie corresponded on behalf of the University with Laurentians serving in the war, and later compiled a scrapbook. She also published “Tommie’s Newsletter” to share the location, status, and general news of those serving abroad – a sort of “Class Notes” for our military Laurentians. Faculty and Staff Honored, Awarded Promotions at Annual Convocation Ceremony
To mark the beginning of a new academic year and celebrate the contributions of all members of the St. Lawrence community, the University honored several employees with awards for their outstanding service and recognized a number of faculty who earned tenure and promotions during their annual Convocation event. The ceremony was held outside in the Herring-Cole Grove on Wednesday, August 25.
St. Lawrence Welcomes Class of 2026
The Class of 2026 are leaders in and out of the classroom. They’re artists and performers, entrepreneurs, athletes, and advocates. Even before they matriculated on August 21, 2022, they set the bar high for future Laurentians. They came to St. Lawrence with a cumulative four-year GPA of 92.3—a record for an incoming class.
Financing the Future
Earlier this year, St. Lawrence University received its largest George I. Alden Trust grant award to create a new, state-of-the-art Bloomberg Finance Lab in Owen D. Young Library (ODY) in support of the new finance major.
Laurentians Inspire: Alaska Boat Captain Casts a Net on Sustainability
This summer Jessica Normandeau ’15 set sail on her newest business venture: captain of a 32-foot vessel in Bristol Bay, Alaska. With grueling 18-hour workdays and a lot of creative problem solving, she’s part of a small percentage of women sustainably harvesting fish from the world’s largest, completely wild, sockeye salmon run.News from Around Campus

Auditions for Silent Sky

Saints Wrap Spring Seasons, Head to Liberty Leagues
It was a great weekend to rep the Scarlet and Brown! Saints men's and women's track and field teams each won the Intercollegiate Athletics Twilight Meet on Saturday to wrap up the regular season before heading to the league championships. The victories for the Saints continued with women's tennis heading to the semi-finals after beating Ithaca 5-4, and women's lacrosse set to compete in the first round of the Liberty League tournament after defeating RIT 11-10 after dominating Nazareth 21-8 last week. St. Lawrence University Appoints Leader of New Center for the Environment
St. Lawrence University President Kathryn A. Morris and Vice President of the University and Dean of Academic Affairs Alison Del Rossi have announced the appointment of Diane White Husic, Ph.D. as the inaugural leader of the new Center for the Environment. She will take the helm as the Richard ’64 and Gail Stradling Executive Director of the Center for the Environment starting in July.

Festival of Science, Scholarship and Creativity 2024
St. Lawrence University buzzed with excitement on Friday, April 26, during the annual Festival of Science, Scholarship, and Creativity . Celebrating a campus-wide tradition that began in 2014, the day held an opportunity to learn from oral and poster presentations by 177 students about their research in a wide variety of fields and appreciate muscial and dance performances as well as the senior art exhibition.

Global Studies SYE Poster Festival 2024
The Global Studies Department hosted the Senior Year Experience Poster Festival at the McAllaster Room in ODY. The event was full of energy as fifteen talented senior students from the Global Studies program showed their research and findings through their posters.
New 2024 Alpha Alpha Alpha Inductees
St. Lawrence's Eta Nu chapter of the Alpha Alpha Alpha first-generation college honors society inducted their newest class. Twenty-seven students and eight faculty and staff were inducted into the society. To be eligible, students needed to earned a GPA of at least a 3.2 and completed 9 units of coursework, while faculty and staff needed to have earned at least a bachelor's degree as a first-generation college student.

St. Lawrence University's Pi Eta Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta inducted new lifetime members. Undergraduate students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours (4 courses) in History, earned in the classroom, online or through AP or transfer credits (or a combination thereof). Eight sociology majors who studied abroad came together to present what they learned while studying outside of St. Lawrence County. From New York City to Sweden to Kenya, sociology students presented the findings of their research and shared their lived experiences with faculty and friends. Tis' The Season of Softball, Baseball, Golf, and Lacrosse!
Jimmy King '26 was named the Individual Champion at the Liberty League Championships, leading Saints men’s golf to a second-place finish at the par-72 Shenendoah Golf Club at Turning Stone on Sunday. There was a playoff to determine the individual champion and Jimmy won on the second playoff hole. Jimmy finished with par on the first hole. Jimmy's opponent hit an errant drive on the second hole, leaving Jimmy with the win and a par.
Judge Murphy '24 tallied six goals and an assist for seven points to lead the third-ranked Saints men's lacrosse team to a 15-10 upset win over fourth-ranked RPI on Saturday afternoon in Troy, New York. With the win, the Saints clinched the second seed in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament and earned regular season co-championship honors, with three teams finishing league play at 6-1. Second to Judge, Daniel Mahoney '27 recorded four goals and two ground balls, while Ted Wilson '26 scored twice.
Two goals each from Liz Evans '24 and Jessica LaPlaca '27 were unfortunately not enough, as the seventh-seeded Saints women's lacrosse team fell 19-6 in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament to William Smith Tuesday.
Both Saints baseball and softball wrapped up their regular seasons with two wins over the weekend. Baseball took two of three games against Clarkson, while softball swept Skidmore. Softball heads to RPI this weekend, hoping to lock down a playoff spot, while baseball engages Clarkson once more in the end-of-season series.

Festival of Science, Scholarship, and Creativity! ❤️🤎
On Friday, we forego regularly scheduled classes to celebrate our students’ academic accomplishments during the Festival of Science, Scholarship, and Creativity. This year, we learned how stress affects metamorphosis in frogs, how students think about sustainability on campus, how retinol has changed our relationship with aging, and how math can help us make better decisions in games like Monopoly or Dungeons and Dragons (among many other fascinating topics). During our annual Dance Showcase, we watch 16 students perform contemporary, jazz, Irish step, and classical pointe numbers. In the Brush Art Gallery, our gallery exhibition focused on “what we hold.” The 12 senior artists featured used a variety of mediums to consider the things in their lives that are hard to let go of—for better or worse.
