  7. Board of Trustees Elects New Members

    St. Lawrence University’s Board of Trustees has elected Jeffrey Killeen ’75, Mark Klett ’74, Stephanie Birrell Luedke ’94, Kathleen Welch ’81, and Will Wilson ’88 as new term members. The trustees will serve for a period of six years beginning on June 1.

    St. Lawrence Ranked Among Nation’s Best Colleges by U.S. News

    St. Lawrence’s reputation among the nation's top liberal arts colleges remains strong according to U.S. News and World Report’s annual “Best Colleges” rankings, released on Sept. 18. The publication also recognized St. Lawrence’s stellar psychology and economics programs.

    St. Lawrence University inducts New Members to Mu Sigma Rho Statistics Honorary Society

    SLU is one of the first liberal arts colleges to have a chapter of the Statistics Honorary Society. With five full-time statistics faculty, St. Lawrence University (SLU) is one of the strongest liberal arts programs in statistics in the country.

    Scarlet and Brown Victories!

    The women's volleyball team started the Saints off strong with Araiza Acum-Santos ’27 and Vanessa Latam ’27 scoring career-highs as they claimed a 3-2 win over SUNY Potsdam. Saints field hockey followed with a shutout on the road against Oswego, winning 2-0. Our womens tennis team swept their final day of the SLU invitational. The team went 8-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles on Sunday. Men’s soccer brought home the win over SUNY Potsdam thanks to Max Mogul’s ’25 strike giving the Saints a 1-0 victory.

    Summer research. Boundless curiosity.

    Alejandra ’24 made just about 600 sheets of paper out of recycled scraps, old T-shirts, and plant fibers. Meghan ’25 combed through the St. Lawrence archives to recover and preserve correspondence between Laurentians serving in WWII and Helen Whalen, the registrar at the time. Ellie ’24 explored what art in the form of stickers can reveal about political parties and organizations in Spain. View photos of the three fellows on the St. Lawrence Instagram account.

    Every year, inquisitive students spend their summers at St. Lawrence, working alongside faculty mentors and diving deep into the topics that spark their curiosity. Whether in the field or lab, summer research fellowships make it possible for students with an interest in hard sciences—like chemistry, biology, or math—to gain hands-on experience and communicate their findings.

    Weekend of Winning!

    This week, the Saints women’s hockey team started off strong with a 2-1 win over the University of  Ottawa on Tuesday. The Scarlet and Brown later won 5-1 against Mercyhurst in the first of two games over the weekend. Their second match turned into a close game as the Saints were down by three points with only 1 minute and 17 seconds left in the game. Women's hockey scored three goals to tie the game and ultimately won in overtime, 6-5. The men's golf team also prevailed this weekend with a first-place win at the Oswego State Invitational. Sophomore Jimmy King ’26 took home the Liberty League Athletics Performer of the Week award.

    Research Topics That Fascinated Our Summer Fellows

    This summer, our research fellows asked a lot of questions. Like, “What can glacial striations in the North Country tell us about climate change?” Or, “How do you build an enigma machine?” While searching for answers and testing solutions alongside their faculty mentors, they gained hands-on experience and sharpened their skills as scientists and mathematicians.     On Thursday September 28, President Morris sent a message to the community sharing that Pamela Shea died on September 5 at the age of 58. Dedicating 28 years as a building supervisor at St. Lawrence, she took the time to know students through her work. Read the Message.
