    Saints Lacrosse Teams Earn Bids to NCAAs

    The Saints Men’s and Women’s lacrosse teams are headed to the 2022 NCAA Tournaments! Continuing a record-breaking season, women’s lacrosse will face Tufts in a second-round game on May 15 in Medford, Massachusetts. After defeating Union 15-9 in the Liberty League Semifinal, the 10th in the nation-ranked men's team will head to Brunswick, Maine to matchup against SUNY Cortland on May 14. Success for the Scarlet and Brown continued with Saints Baseball defeating Vassar 20-5 and 5-4 while the riding team’s Fenn Novicki ’22 was named a National Champion and Allison Bauer ’22 earned Reserve National Champion honors at the IHSA Nationals. During the Liberty League Track and Field Championship, Kathleen Merchant ’22 won her third javelin title while Emma Palumbo ’25 won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and Kimberly Merchant ’22 won the discus. Saints Women’s Rowing closed out the 2021-22 season at the National Invitational Rowing Championships while the second Varsity 8 led the men's rowing team with a first-place finish at the Great Adirondack Boat Race at Long Lake.     2024 Kathryn Fraser Mackay Memorial Lecture with David Morgan

    - Sykes Common Room The Kathryn Fraser Mackay Memorial Lectureship fund was established in 1980 by Donald and Lottie Mackay in memory of their daughter, Kathryn Fraser Mackay ’77, and supports lectures coordinated by the Religious Studies and Philosophy departments. This Lecture will welcome Professor of Religious Studies at Duke University David Morgan.

    SLU Writers Series presents Beth Nguyen

    - Sykes Common Room For over 50 years the Writers Series program at St. Lawrence University has welcomed all varieties of authors including Pulitzer Prize winners. The upcoming event welcomes Beth Nguyen (Bich Minh Nguyen). Nguyen is the author of the memoir Owner of a Lonely Heart, published by Scribner in 2023, as well as three books published by Viking Penguin. Nguyen has a number of other prestigious accomplishments and will be speaking in the Sykes Common Room on March 28 at 8:00 p.m.

    Scarlet and Brown Athletic Rundown!

    Saint's Softball started their year in Florida, finishing with an above .500 record after nine games played in the Sunshine State. They took wins over Washington & Jefferson, Nazareth, Lawrence, Wellesley and Keuka, winning three straight games to finish the trip. Their best performers swept the Liberty League awards, with Meredith Rose '24 winning player of the week, Layne Fritz '26 being named pitcher of the week, and Allison Kloft '27 tabbed as rookie of the week.

    Baseball also won four games in Florida to start their season, winning two each against Worcester State and Knox College. 

    Kristina Bahl '24 scored at 10:25 of overtime to lift the women's hockey team to a historic 1-0 win over Penn State in the NCAA Regional Semifinals on Thursday night in Madison, Wisconsin. The win marked the first tournament win for the Scarlet and Brown since 2007, and the first tournament win for head coach Chris Wells. The Saints then had their season end in the NCAA quarterfinal at the hands of Wisconsin. 

    Men’s hockey entered their ECAC quarterfinal series as the road team against Colgate, and dispatched them in two straight games to advance to the ECAC semifinal in Lake Placid, New York this weekend. Luc Salem '24 had the game-winner in a 3-2 double overtime marathon in game one, Jan Olenginski '27 scored the series-clinching goal and Ben Kraws M'25 made 41 saves in a 3-2 game two win. St. Lawrence faced Quinnipiac in the ECAC semifinal and took home the win where they moved on to play in the ECAC championship on Saturday, March 23 where they were defeated by Cornell.

    No. 4 nationally ranked men’s lacrosse has established itself as one of the strongest teams in the NCAA after two straight wins over other nationally-ranked opponents. They downed No. 11 York 9-8 with a highlight-reel overtime goal from Ben Hutchinson '24, and No. 5 Christopher Newport 13-12 in another overtime thriller.

    Battle for the ECAC Championship Title!

    The Skating Saints began an exhilarating journey by fiercely defending their home ice against Yale University in the opening round.

    In the quarterfinals, the Scarlet and Brown showcased their dominance, sweeping the rink in a best-of-three series against Colgate University. The first game unfolded in a nail-biting fashion, with a thrilling 3-2 victory after two rounds of overtime. The second game saw the Saints secure a clean 3-2 win by the end of the third period.

    Advancing to the semifinals, the Saints shut out the reigning national champions, Quinnipiac University!

    Following the gritty playoff run, The Skating Saints took on Cornell to battle for the ECAC championship title. The saints fell just short with Cornell taking the Whitelaw Cup in a 1-3 loss for the Saints.

    As the Lake Placid Rink resonated with Scarlet and Brown, the St. Lawrence Community witnessed a series of unforgettable matchups, etching memories that will endure for a lifetime!     Saints Back in Action

    The athletic season is ramping up for the Scarlet and Brown! Women’s soccer started off strong with a 2-1 win over DeSales. An impressive race by both the men's and women’s cross country team resulted in both teams bringing home first place in their season-opening events. The women’s field hockey team defeated Oneonta taking a 3-2 lead in the first half, bringing home the win for the Saints! Women’s Tennis duo, Angelica Aksdal-Jansen and Molly Jespersen, claimed the A Flight Doubles while Ariane Karera won the B Flight Singles Final to highlight the team at the Mary Hosking Invitational.
