CIIS Launches Travel Grant Map

The Center for International and Intercultural Studies (CIIS) partnered with the Digital Scholarship team to  create an interactive map that features personal essays written by travel grant recipients. Users can select countries around the globe to read about St. Lawrence students' funded research experiences.

Volleyball Player Hits Career Milestone; Field Hockey Coach Fran Grembowicz Celebrates 200th Career Win

Last week, Natalie Piper '22 recorded her 1,000th kill for Saints Volleyball as the team beat SUNY Potsdam 3-0 at home. Piper is the quickest to 1,000 in the program's 41-year history. The week's wins continued with Saints Esports securing their second straight win in the ECAC season against Nazareth College 2-0 and defeating New England College 3-0. On Thursday, the volleyball team defeated SUNY Plattsburgh 3-1 on the road.
On Friday, the field hockey team toppled William Smith 2 -1, earning Head Coach Fran Grembowicz her 200th career win, while both the women's and men's soccer teams defeated Bard College 2-1.  On Saturday, Volleyball defeated Hamilton College 3-1 while the Esports team beat Long Island University 2-1. On Sunday, the field hockey team secured a 2-1 win over the University of Rochester at home.

Laying the Groundwork for Plastic Degradation Research 

Rae Dunbar '23, a combined environmental studies and biology major, wanted answers to the global problem of plastic pollution. After receiving a stipend to spend eight weeks on campus this past summer as a University Fellow,  she laid that groundwork for future researchers interested in plastic degradation.

Track and Field Teams Secure Ice Broken Open Titles; Spring Sports Continue

The Saints track and field teams are continuing a winning streak after securing team titles at Ice Broken Open on Saturday. The women's team won 12 events and the men's team won 9 events during the home meet against Castleton, Clarkson, Herkimer, NVU-Johnson, Plattsburgh, and Potsdam. The weekend wins continued with the men’s and women’s tennis teams each dominating Bard 9-0 while men’s lacrosse defeated Ithaca 14-10 and women’s lacrosse beat Bard 20-8. Baseball defeated Ithaca 6-2 after beating SUNY Poly 2-0 last week while Esports advanced to the Elite 8 in the Teemo Cup after securing a 2-0 win over Milligan University. After winning its 11th-straight Regional Championship,  four members of Saints riding will advance to Zones on April 9. Eleven skiers from the Alpine and Nordic ski teams were honored by the United States Collegiate Ski Coaches Association (USCSCA) for having earned National Collegiate All-Academic Ski Team honors for the 2022 season while six members of the men's and women's track and field teams earned all-region honors for the indoor season, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Masking Policy Update

Academic Affairs and Student Life sent a message to the community on Monday, Feb. 28 announcing that due to the current declines in active COVID-19 cases on campus and throughout the county, the St. Lawrence University face-mask requirement is changing for vaccinated individuals beginning Wednesday, March 2. Read the message and new masking guidelines. 

Saints Earn Liberty League Titles, Head to Championships

During the Liberty League Championships in Ithaca, men’s track and field’s Erik Geier ’23 won the 60-meter hurdle to secure the Liberty League title while women's track and field's Kathleen Merchant '22 won the shot put. Alpine skiing’s Ava Mattsson ’22 is headed to the NCAAs in Park City, Utah following her performance at the UNH Carnival and the men’s ice hockey team is set to compete in the opening round of the conference playoffs after concluding their regular season with a 3-1 win over Yale 3-1 and a 1-1 tie with Brown. During the ECAC Quarterfinals, women’s ice hockey defeated Yale 4-2 but ultimately fell to the No. 7 ranked team. The riding team won its 12th straight Regional Championship Title by finishing the season with the highest point total from the regular season and women’s tennis opened conference play with a 6-3 win over Union.  Women’s squash dominated Wesleyan 9-0 at the CSA Team Nationals but fell to Middlebury College in the final round. During the Liberty League Semifinals, women’s basketball defeated Skidmore (64-60) and Vassar(80-63) but fell to Ithaca in the championship game on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores. SLU Close the Loop

St. Lawrence students are passionate about making sustainable choices accessible to everyone.  SLU Close the Loop, an initiative to reduce waste by fostering an exchange and swap culture on campus, hosted its first-ever clothing swap where students had a chance to change up their closets and find new style inspiration while helping to reduce waste on campus. View photos of the event on the St. Lawrence Instagram account. 

Throughout this week, Health Services will host walk-in COVID-19 testing clinics for symptomatic students or students with a recent known COVID-19 exposure. Clinics will be held Monday, Nov. 29, through Friday, Dec. 3, from 8:30 -11:30 a.m. and 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Diana B. Torrey '82 Health and Counseling Center. These clinics are in addition to the University's weekly testing clinics, which are held for unvaccinated campus community members and also open to any asymptomatic student, faculty, and staff member. Weekly testing clinics take place Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. in Eben Holden.

NCAA Personal Bests for Men's XC; Winter Sports Continue

The Saints had much to celebrate the first weekend of break! Three members of the men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, where Jackson Hamilton ’23 and George Gowdy ’23 each set personal best times. The women’s basketball team defeated SUNY Plattsburgh 83-41, Williams College 65-64, and Hamilton 72-68, while the men's squad beat SUNY Plattsburgh 85-70 and SUNY Potsdam 70-61. The riding team won its second home show of the year at the St. Lawrence Show. The wins continued at the outset of break with Men’s Squash defeating both Haverford and Middlebury 8-1 and Women’s Squash sweeping Haverford 9-0, while Women’s Ice Hockey beat Brown 2-1 and RIT 5-1 and Men’s Ice Hockey secured a 6-4 win over Princeton.
