    University Announces $30 million Facilities Enhancement Initiative

    Immediately following Commencement in May, St. Lawrence University will begin a $30 million investment in facilities, with a priority on renovating residence halls and other student spaces to enhance the living-learning experience for students.

    St. Lawrence University Names Troy Finn as Vice President for University Advancement

    St. Lawrence has named Troy Finn its Vice President for University Advancement, President Kathryn A. Morris announced on March 27. Finn, who will be responsible for all fundraising and Laurentian engagement activities, plans to begin his duties on May 15.

    Saints Secure Spring Break Wins

    The Scarlet and Brown returned home after dominating Spring Break competitions in Florida and Maryland last week. Saints baseball beat St. Olaf College 6-1 and Union 2-1, 8-5 while men's tennis defeated Goucher College 6-3 and Hope College 7-2 and women's tennis topped Luther College 5-4 and George Fox University 8-1. Over the weekend, Saints softball dominated Keuka College 13-2 as men's lacrosse defeated Western New England University 14-9 and women's lacrosse beat Ithaca 12-14 after defeating Stevenson University 11-10 earlier in the week. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

    Saints Skate to Victory; Seasons Continue

    The Scarlet and Brown dominated the competition on Friday as men's hockey defeated Princeton 6-2 in Appleton Arena and women's hockey secured a 7-3 win over Dartmouth on the road. The weekend wins for the Saints continued with men's basketball securing a 69-65 overtime win over Ithaca on Saturday after defeating RPI 56-53 on Friday while men's squash beat MIT 5-4. Men's tennis defeated Daemen University 7-2 at home as the Saints men's track and field DMR team took first place at the Fastrack Invitational.     Week of Fun and Rivalry!

    Both men's and women's hockey teams went undefeated at Appleton Arena contests against Clarkson University. The St. Lawrence women's hockey team, ranked No. 9 nationally, went into their biggest weekend of the season and came out of it with a 1-0 win over No. 3 Clarkson in leg one of the Route 11 Rivalry. The men’s hockey team won their Saturday night game against the Golden Knights 2-1, jumping out with an early two-goal lead and sending 2,826 Saints fans into a frenzy. They held their lead into the third period for the win.

    Maggie Wenger '24, along with one of the Saints relay teams, broke St. Lawrence pool records Saturday, as the Saints women’s swimming and diving team took two victories in a host tri-meet over Saint Michael’s and Wells College. Wenger '24 beat the 100-meter free record with a time of 53.46. The 800-meter free relay team of Wenger '24, Lulu Rauch '25, Katie Taberski '25, and Laura Bolduc '24 beat that record with a time of 8:11.31.

    Men’s basketball won their eighth straight game, going 3-0 over the course of the week with victories over Clarkson, Bard, and Vassar.

    Portraying St. Lawrence!

    "Portraying St. Lawrence" honors the lives and contributions of three St. Lawrence community members, Margaret Kent Bass, Ernest M. Benedict, and Rev. Kathleen Buckley. During the public dedication ceremony we celebrated the honorees, their loved ones, and the artists by sharing their portraits with the entire St. Lawrence community.

    Statistics Students, Faculty and Alums Attend Sports Analytics Conference

    Data Science students Hope Donoghue ’24 and Shane Hauck ’23, along with Assistant Director of the Peterson Quantitative Resource Center AJ Dykstra ’22, Professor of Statistics Robin Lock, and Charles A. Dana Professor of Statistics Michael Schuckers all attended the Sports Analytics Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

    Weekend of Hoops!

    It was a sweep of regional rival Clarkson as both women’s and men’s basketball came up with victories in the final doubleheader of 2023 at Burkman Gymnasium Wednesday. The women's team registered their second conference win of 2023-24 with a score of 73-61 over the Golden Knights. The win pushes their record back above .500 at 2-1 and improves their overall record to 2-5. The men’s team never trailed in either of their games this week—they beat Clarkson 73-66 then also took a victory against SUNY Geneseo in non-conference play 79-58. They are now tied for third in the Liberty League with a 6-3 record.

    102 Years of Candlelight

    For nearly a century, Gunnison Memorial Chapel has been a beacon of unity and reflection. The chapel was illuminated by 250 candles and filled with our Laurentian community, who gathered from near and far, for the 102nd Annual Candlelight Service. This beloved tradition marks the end of the fall semester and fills us with hope for the year ahead. Let’s carry on the spirit of togetherness and send out radiant wishes for a bright 2024.     Assistant Director of Off-Campus Study Presents Research on Student Retention

    Assistant Director of Off-Campus Study Kim Longfellow presented findings from her ongoing research on student retention within off-campus study programs. At the 2023 NAFSA Region X and XI Conference in Montreal, Longfellow was the chair and presenter at a session titled "Ghosted: Data-Driven Analysis of Students Breaking Up with Study Abroad."

    A Week of Impressive Victories

    The Women’s Field Hockey team dominated with 7-2 win against Keuka College. The Women’s Hockey team faced a tough opponent in #14 Princeton University but managed to secure a 7-2 victory on their home turf.  The Saints Women Hockey later defeated Quinnipiac University in a 4-1 game. The Women’s and Men’s Squash teams were on fire with consecutive 8-0 and 9-0 wins against Vassar College and Fordham University, and both scored a 9-0 victory against Boston University. The Women’s Riding team had a very strong performance, earning high point awards and securing a comfortable lead in the IHSA standings.

    Saints Qualify for NCAAs, Earn Liberty League Accolades

    After competing in the Atlantic Regional, several members of the Saints Track and Field teams are headed to NCAA DIII Championship meets later this week. During the regional meet last week, Timothy Boyce '25 won the 800, breaking a St. Lawrence record while Emma Palumbo '25, Kathleen Merchant '22, and Katherine Sheehy '23 beat their personal bests in their respective events.     What’s at Stake: Alumni, Faculty Publish Research on Climate Change and Winter Sports in the North Country

    Winter in the North Country is synonymous with outdoor activities like pond hockey and cross country skiing. In a collaborative research article recently published in The Adirondack Journal of Environmental Studies, two faculty members and three St. Lawrence alumni explore how carbon emissions and climate change could affect these cold-weather traditions.

    Women's Basketball Continues Unbeaten Streak

    In a battle of the last two teams undefeated in Liberty League conference play, Saints Women's Basketball defeated Vassar 99-81 on the road on Saturday to improve to 10-0.
