Saints Secure Wins to Kick Off the Fall SeasonSaints Men’s Golf secured its first win of the season with a combined score of 602 at the Oliver D. Appleton Golf Course, marking the first victory for first-year Head Coach Dave Clausen at St. Lawrence. Gabe Ward ’27 finished as the tournament runner-up with a combined score of 147, earning him the Saints Athlete of the Week honors. Mary Grace McCann ’25 led the women’s golf team to a fourth-place finish at the St. Lawrence Invitational, placing third individually with a combined score of 157 (77, 80). Sadie Cumming ’28 also performed well, finishing 11th with a score of 169 (84, 85) in her collegiate debut. The winning streak for the Scarlet and Brown continued as Nick Lyndaker '26 secured a first-place finish at the Plattsburgh 5K, with a time of 16:11.4, propelling the Saints Men’s Cross Country team to the top of the leaderboard. Avery Blanchard ’28 led the women’s cross country team to a first-place finish with a time of 19:28.0 while Charlotte Blake ’27 and Adriana Cecchetelli ’26 followed closely, finishing in second (19:50.8) and third (20:02.1), respectively. At the Mary Hosking Invitational, Molly Jespersen ’26 advanced to the A draw final for Saints Women’s Tennis. She defeated RIT 8-6 in the semifinal match before falling to the University of Rochester. Saints Field Hockey will celebrate its 50th anniversary with alumni and friends during the home opener on Saturday, September 7, at 7 p.m. against SUNY Oswego. Saints Post Dominant WinsWomen’s Soccer: Senior Meredith Donahue tallied a goal and an assist as the women’s soccer team earned a balanced 4-0 win over Bard College at the Lorenzo Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. The Saints improved to 5-3-3 overall and 1-1-0 in Liberty League play. Football: Six touchdowns, including five from senior Will Lederman, powered St. Lawrence to a 45-14 Liberty League win over Hilbert on Saturday at Leckonby Stadium. Lederman passed for a career-high 341 yards and four touchdowns, completing 14 of 17 passes with a long of 73 yards. Senior Nicholas Huhtala added four catches for a career-best 137 yards, and senior Shea Goodwin recorded six receptions for 95 yards. Lederman was named LL offensive performer of the week, while first-year Luke Robillard picked up LL rookie of the week honors. Men’s Soccer: The men’s soccer team posted a dominant week, defeating Clarkson 2-0 and Bard 3-0 to move to 2-2 in Liberty League play. First-year goalkeeper Zach Amato recorded back-to-back shutouts to earn Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week honors. Women’s Swimming and Diving: Sophomore Lilly Mruzik, first-year Sophie Nelson, and the 200-yard medley relay team earned wins as the women’s swimming and diving team opened the season at the Union Quad Meet against Clarkson, Smith, and Union. Men’s Golf: Junior Gabe Ward led the Saints at the Hamilton Invitational, finishing fourth at the par-72 Rome Country Club with a two-day total of 148 and eight birdies. Senior Ben DeBiase improved by nine strokes on Sunday to climb 14 spots and tie for 18th overall. Men’s Cross-Country: Senior Nick Lyndaker earned his third Liberty League Performer of the Week honor following a standout run at the Paul Short Invitational. NCAA Championship Invites for Members of Men's XC; Winter Sports UnderwayFollowing their performances at the NCAA Mideast Regional on Saturday, Jackson Hamilton ’23, George David Gowdy ’23, and Timothy Boyce ’25 have earned invitations to the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championship in Louisville, Kentucky. Men's Soccer closed their 2021 season after falling 2-0 to Washington College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Football closed their 2021 season with a 41-6 win over Buffalo State on Saturday, while Men’s Squash beat Hobart 7-2 and Women's Squash defeated William Smith 6-3 in their respective season openers. The Saturday wins continued with Women’s Swimming and Diving topping William Smith 113-95 and Women’s Basketball beating SUNY Poly 74-48 after defeating SUNY Potsdam 68-60 in their season opener last week. Men’s Basketball kicked off their season with a 80-67 win against Alfred State College on Friday and a 69-65 overtime win against Alfred University on Saturday.
