St. Lawrence Announces Coveted Department of State Partnership to Help Shape International Policy Starting in the fall of 2023, St. Lawrence students will have a unique opportunity to explore and impact real-world foreign policy issues while working alongside career diplomats.

¡La Guitarra Fiesta! by Maria Zemantauski with percussionist Brian Melick Sat, Apr 8 at 8pm - 1 hour 30 minutes Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall Internationally acclaimed guitarist, Maria Zemantauski, will present a program of classics and stunning originals. Embracing the classical and traditional flamenco repertoire for her foundation, she takes her audience on a musical journey inspired by her flair for experimentation and pure love of the instrument.

Saints Track & Field Teams Win Ice Broken Open It was a great weekend to be a Saint as the men's and women's track and field teams kicked off their respective outdoor seasons by winning the Ice Broken Open against Plattsburgh, Herkimer, Potsdam, Mohawk Valley, and Clarkson. The home wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's tennis dominating RIT 8-1, women's tennis shutting out RIT 9-0, and men's lacrosse defeating St. John Fisher 20-11 after securing a 12-10 victory over Ithaca. During the IHSA Zone 2 Regionals, Harper Eskey '26 earned High Point Rider honors while several riders qualified for regionals and zones. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

St. Lawrence Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Title IX Dotty Hall, an influential coach, administrator, and teacher from 1968 until 2000, was on the vanguard of advancing women’s athletics at St. Lawrence before the enactment of Title IX, the watershed legislation that recognized gender equity in education as a civil right. On the 50th anniversary of Title IX, we’re celebrating Hall and her fellow coaches, athletes, and advocates who blazed the trail for women’s athletics at St. Lawrence.

World Languages Professor Publishes New Book on Ming Dynasty Tales Professor of World Languages, Cultures, and Media and Coordinator of Asian Studies Zhenjun Zhang recently collaborated with Professor Victor H. Mair of the University of Pennsylvania to publish a book that presents for the first time in English, 10 stories from China’s Ming Dynasty era.

Laurentians Take On SLU Connect Boston 2022 Who says networking can't be fun? Just ask any of the students on our most recent SLU Connect trip in Boston. They spent a week networking with members of our top-ranked alumni network and gaining insights into possible career paths—all while immersing themselves in the work/life culture of this historic city.

First Person: Discovering the Taste and Texture of Music Smooth. Sweet. Soaring. Sorrowful. Ntsieng Botsane ’23 discovered new sensory dimensions of music while exploring New Orleans with her Rhetorical Traditions of the African World class. Throughout their experience, she and her classmates learned about the history of slavery and the influence of Black Americans on the rich music traditions for which the Birthplace of Jazz celebrated.

Meet Caitlin French '23 Caitlin French '23 knows how to make connections. As she heads into her final year at St. Lawrence, she's reflecting on how her passion for music, dedication to service work, and the alumni network helped her find her community.

First Person: How I Helped Win the Arctic Opportunity Explorers Challenge in Denmark While studying abroad in Copenhagen, Hayden '22 put his econ & global studies double major to the test during the Arctic Opportunity Explorers Challenge. Working with students from across the globe, he devised solutions to real-world problems in the Arctic.

Swahili Teaching Fellow, Dennis Simiyu, Leads Short-Term Travel Component in Kenya Students in an Elementary Swahili recently embarked on a journey to Kenya where they explored historical places and put their language skills into action.

Dr. Tom Greene Leads Summer Course in London During the summer 2022 study abroad course, “London Spaces and UK Places," students examined place attachment and landscape aesthetics by exploring neighborhoods throughout London.

50th Anniversary of Title IX In honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, Saints Athletics took a look back on the history of what is likely St. Lawrence’s first women’s athletic team. The determination of early basketball teams, nearly 80 years before the passage of Title IX, set in motion a rich and resilient tradition of women’s sports on campus.  Learn more about Saints Athletics history and Title IX.

Capitalizing on St. Lawrence’s Connection to Cornell Law School: Phil Duggan '15 Phil Duggan ’15 earned his J.D. from Cornell Law School in 2021, thanks to the St. Lawrence University-Cornell Law School Scholarship. While interviewing for his first jobs in the legal field, he found himself returning to his multifaceted St. Lawrence experiences as evidence of his ability to embrace challenges, adapt to new environments, and learn on the fly.

Laurentians Inspire: A Unique Lens on Environmental Conservation As a science communicator, Justin Dalaba ’16 is combining his training as a biologist with his passion for photography to raise awareness of environmental conservation issues.

Faculty Focus-April 18, 2022 Faculty members put their knowledge into action so students and others are able to benefit from it. Recently, faculty published scholarly journal articles, presented their research at conferences around the globe, and used their expertise to testify to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Piskor Faculty Lecture Professor of Global Studies John Collins will examine the issue of "fake news" and present the results of his research into the relative absence of the concept of settler colonialism in coverage provided by media outlets.

Caroline Davis Quintet Thu, Apr 21 at 8pm - 1 hour Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall New York City-based jazz saxophonist Caroline Davis and her quintet will perform music covering a wide range of styles including jazz, improvised music, modern classical, R&B, folk, an homage to her shifting environment as a child.

Richard F. Brush Art Gallery to Present Indigenous Perceptions of Nature Exhibition Fri, Apr 22 - All day Brush Art Gallery The St. Lawrence University Richard F. Brush Art Gallery exhibition showcasing artwork created by Haudenosaunee (Iroquois), Canadian Inuit, and Peruvian artists is on display until Saturday, June 4.

Sustainability Day and Green Living Fair Fri, Apr 22 - All day In partnership with the Associated Colleges of St. Lawrence Valley, this two-day event will showcase ideas, tools, and services that community members, municipalities, educational intuitions, and local businesses can use when working together for a sustainable future. The event will feature keynote speaker, Robin Wall-Kimmerer, who is a mother, scientist, and award-winning author.

Red Days Fri, Apr 22 at 8pm - 1 hour 30 minutes Noble Center 109 In this student-led production, presented in conjunction with Sustainability Day and the Green Living fair, "Red Days" follows Dianna through four seasons, as the air quality in Salt Lake climbs to crisis levels.

Music at the Movies: Take Two! Sun, Apr 24 at 2pm - 1 hour 30 minutes Peterson-Kermani Performance Hall The SLU String Orchestra & Friends, directed by Christian Hosmer, presents "Music at the Movies: Take Two!" The program will feature popular film music selections originally scheduled for spring 2020, and rebooted for 2022!

Saints Dominate Spring Matchups Saints men’s lacrosse defeated Vassarr 19-7 after beating Middlebury 18-11 in an on-the-road matchup that landed Mark Mahoney ’22 a number six spot on ESPN’s Sports Center Top 10 Sports Plays in April. Women’s lacrosse dominated RPI 17-3 to move into second place in the Liberty Leagues standings while women’s tennis secured a 7-2 win over RIT and men’s tennis beat Union 5-4. Softball defeated Clarkson 8-6 while several members of the men's and women's track and field teams secured top performances during the Upstate Alternative Meet in Cortland and the Smashing Saints Esports team ended their season in the Sweet 16 of the ECAC playoffs. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.
