Saints Winter Sports in Full Swing

While the men's and women's cross country teams concluded the fall season with individual and team appearances at the NCAA National Championships, the winter sports season continues in full swing for the Saints. Over the weekend, men's basketball defeated SUNY Canton 68-52 and SUNY Potsdam 71-62  after beating Plattsburgh 77-65 earlier in the week.  Women's basketball topped Plattsburgh 60-58 while men's squash opened its season with a 9-0 shutout over Brown University on Sunday. St. Lawrence Celebrates International Education Week

During International Education Week, students across campus gathered to eat, dance, create, and learn while celebrating the many different cultures represented at St. Lawrence. From Diwali, the Festival of Lights, dance workshops, and language lessons, to international art and sushi-making classes, there was no shortage of opportunities for students to share their cultures and learn new things about our community. A Nose for Conservation

As part of a six-week summer research project, Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology Kristine Hoffman, Julia Sirois ’23, and Newt, a labrador trained to detect several species of turtles, are scouring the Rhode Island landscape to find out how many of less common species of turtles are living there. Learn more about Newt on the St. Lawrence Twitter account. 

Saints Dominate Spring Break Competitions

The scarlet and brown dominated their spring break competitions as Saints baseball secured wins over Fredonia (15-4), Hamilton (4-2),  Muhlenberg (21-6), and Thomas College (5-4, 6-1) while softball defeated Franklin & Marshall (10-3, 5-3) and Utica (2-6, 4-3). Women’s lacrosse topped Rochester 19-7 in the Liberty League opener after defeating Brockport 15-12 and Plattsburgh 18-7 while men’s lacrosse beat SUNY Cortland 14-8 and Western New England University 12-10. Men’s tennis defeated Bethel 7-2 after securing an 8-1 win over St. Scholastica at the UTSA National Campus while women’s tennis dominated New Paltz 8-1 after beating St. Scholastica 6-3. Women's swimming and diving's Maggie Wenger ’24 competed in several events at the NCAA Championships as Esports secured a 1-0 win over the University of Ottawa in a NACA Conference matchup. Women’s ice hockey’s Lucy Morgan ’23 was named a CCM/AHCA All-American for the 2021-22 season, Sanna Koivumäki ’22 of the women’s squash team has been selected to compete for her home country of Finland in the 2022 European Team Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands, and Lewis Anderson ’25 was named Second Team All-American by the College Squash Association. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Scarlet and Brown Victories!

The women's volleyball team started the Saints off strong with Araiza Acum-Santos ’27 and Vanessa Latam ’27 scoring career-highs as they claimed a 3-2 win over SUNY Potsdam. Saints field hockey followed with a shutout on the road against Oswego, winning 2-0. Our women’s tennis team swept their final day of the SLU invitational. The team went 8-0 in singles and 5-0 in doubles on Sunday. Men’s soccer brought home the win over SUNY Potsdam thanks to Max Mogul’s ’25 strike giving the Saints a 1-0 victory.

Summer research. Boundless curiosity.

Alejandra ’24 made just about 600 sheets of paper out of recycled scraps, old T-shirts, and plant fibers. Meghan ’25 combed through the St. Lawrence archives to recover and preserve correspondence between Laurentians serving in WWII and Helen Whalen, the registrar at the time. Saints Shut Out the Competition, Fall Sports Continue

The scarlet and brown shut out the competition as Saints volleyball topped Potsdam 3-0 with a marathon 62-point second set and Saints men's soccer defeated Ithaca 1-0 last week. At the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regionals hosted by Drew University, Nathan Turtledove '23 earned a singles win, and Broderick Pinto '25 and Adam Heilbronner '24 earned a doubles win. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.
