SLU Connect Goes Coast to Coast

During the spring semester, students attended SLU Connect programs in San Francisco and Boston where they connected with alumni industry experts in a variety of fields, including ocean exploration, energy solutions, commercial real estate, investment banking, transportation, and e-commerce. Over the span of four days, students were immersed in roundtable discussions, guided company tours, networking receptions, and so much more! Ashlee Downing-Duke Receives Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award

During the annual College Student Personnel Association of New York State, Inc. (CSPA-NYS) Conference, Ashlee Downing-Duke, senior associate director of campus activities & residential engagement, received the Champion of Diversity and Inclusion Award. Presented to an individual or group that demonstrates competency and commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education, the award recognizes promotion of cultural awareness through education, celebration, open dialogue, and advocacy.

Happy Birthday, Owen D. Young

Sunday, October 27th marks Owen D. Young’s 150th birthday. The main University library, named in his honor, reflects Young's life of work for St. Lawrence and his love of books. To celebrate his birthday and learn about his legacy, Laurentians are encouraged to explore the campus space that bears his name. 

Saints Shut Out the Competition and Break Records

Men’s Soccer—The team went 1-0-1 this weekend, including an impressive draw in a wild second half against No. 10 nationally ranked Vassar. The Brewers, ranked first in the Liberty League, held a 3-1 lead before sophomore Henry Brown’s brace led a furious St. Lawrence comeback. That resulted in a 3-3 draw Friday. The Saints then downed Bard 4-1. They are currently 6-2-4 on the year and 3-0-3 in conference play, good enough for second overall.

Women’s Hockey—Senior Abby Hustler tallied a goal and three assists, while four other Saints scored, as the then seventh-ranked women's hockey team had a 5-0 shutout win over Vermont Saturday afternoon in Burlington. That led the Saints to a split of the weekend, and they advanced to sixth overall in the USCHO poll.

Men’s Cross Country—Junior Nick Lyndaker's historic fourth-place finish at the Conn College Invitational helped the men's cross country team achieve an eighth-place finish among a field of 35 teams. Lyndaker's time of 24:20.0 at the 8 kilometer race is the fastest time recorded by a Saint since 2011, and is the fastest time on record for any men’s cross country athlete at a non-NCAA event.

Men’s Hockey—The team also split their weekend, with their victory coming over Ferris State in emphatic fashion. They took an 8-0 victory Saturday. Senior Greg Lapointe led the way with a hat trick and a pair of assists for five points, while seniors Mason Waite (1-3-4), and Tomáš Mazura (0-4-4) each tallied four points. Sophomore Mason Kucenski earned his first career shutout in the win stopping all 30 shots he faced. Waite and Kucenski received nods for ECAC Hockey Defender of the Week, and MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week respectively.

Women’s Soccer—Sophomore Zoe Rogan led the way with two goals and an assist, while senior Grace Mochnal tacked on a goal and an assist as women's soccer defeated Bard 5-0 Saturday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, moving to 6-6-1 on the season.

Exploring Forensic Anthropology with Professor Pitre

Associate Professor and Chair of Anthropology Mindy Pitre and her students recently excavated artificial skeletal remains during their hands-on Forensic Anthropology class. This simulation allowed them to gain experience in recovering, identifying, and analyzing human remains, simulating a real-world scenario like a mass disaster site or a human rights investigation. On Friday, February 3, President Morris sent a message to the community about the passing of  former St. Lawrence University President Walter Lawrence (Lawry) Gulick, GP’13 who sought and laid the groundwork for a more inclusive and diverse Laurentian community—served by the rigorous liberal arts education he championed. Saints Basketball Dominates Home Court Matchups; Seasons Continue

It was a winning weekend for the Saints! Women's basketball secured a 68-57 win over RIT on Saturday after defeating William Smith 82-59 on Friday and dominating Clarkson 74-47 at home last week while Saints men's basketball beat RIT 88-71 on Saturday after securing a 73-67 win over Hobart on Friday.  The wins for the Scarlet and Brown continued with men's hockey shutting out Brown 6-0 on the road while women's hockey skated to a 3-2 overtime win over Cornell at home. Saints squash wrapped up its 2023 Liberty League Championships on home court this weekend after the women's team secured three sets of 8-0 wins over Vassar, Bard, and Denison before falling to William Smith in the championship match on Sunday while the men's team topped Bard 8-1 and Hobart 5-4  before falling to Rochester on Sunday. For up-to-date schedules, news, and scores visit SaintsAthletics.com.

Celebrating Lunar New Year

The International House (I-House) and Asian Students Intercultural Association (A.S.I.A) celebrated Lunar New Year with a teatime spent sharing dumplings and laughs, crafting origami rabbits, and enjoying music with friends to ring in a prosperous year ahead. On Monday, December 19 President Morris sent a message to the community about the passing of  Neal Miller, former St. Lawrence head custodian, and Alice Hessert, who helped develop and operate the University’s music library. Read the messages. 

Saints Back in Action for 2023

The new year is off to a victorious start for the Scarlet and Brown! Over the weekend, the Saints dominated the competition as the women's ice hockey shut out Union 3-0 while the men's ice hockey defeated Dartmouth 3-2. During the Utica Winter Opener, Alli Sibold '24 won the 1,000 meters to lead the women's track and field team while Timmy Boyce '25 won the 1,000 for the men's team. The wins continued with men's basketball topping RPI 50-37, women's squash securing a 5-4 win over Bates, and men's squash beating Dickinson 7-2 on the road after defeating Bowdoin 7-2 earlier in the week. Saints Sweep the Weekend and Earn National Honors

• Baseball: The Saints picked up three wins this past week, taking down Vassar 9-4 in the backend of a double header. Sophomore Mike Siano, senior Timothy Connor, and senior Sean Desjardins all recorded two hits. The team also picked up back-to-back wins against Hobart this past Saturday, winning both games 7-3, as senior Michael Hutchins and sophomore Boden Driscoll dominated on the mound.
• Softball: The Saints won four games this week, recording two doubleheader sweeps against Potsdam and Union. Against Potsdam, they won 4-3 and 5-2, where sophomore Izzy Melanson and first-year Marleigh Monroe had wins in the circle. Against Union, they recorded 9-5, and 8-0 wins, coming back to beat Union in Game 1 of the twin bill.
• Women’s Lacrosse: The Scarlet and Brown took down Skidmore 10-5 this past Friday, where sophomore Jessica LaPlaca had a career-best eight points. They finished the weekend 1-1.
• Men’s Lacrosse: In the Route 11 rivalry matchup against Clarkson last Wednesday, the Saints won 9-7 after an electric final quarter where they outscored the Knights 5-1. Last Thursday, sophomore Daniel Mahoney and senior Charlie Miele earned spots on the USILA Team of the Week for their play in the wins against Middlebury and Ithaca.
• Football: Seven players earned a spot in the 2025 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. Seniors Oskar Baldwin, Matthew Dahill, Joseph O’Neil, Evan Pastino, Cole Salyards, and Dexter Seeley were all named recipients of the achievement.
• Track and Field: Both teams competed in the Middlebury Invitational this past Saturday. On the men’s side, junior Patrick Russell won the 3000-meter and junior Nick Lyndaker won the 800-meter, and the team consisting of first-year Dylan Keating, sophomore Caleb Young, junior Kris Mellor, and senior Leif Harvey won the 4x400-meter relay. On the women’s side, sophomore Carly Zack took home a win in the 3000-meter run with her time of 12.09.86, and junior Amelia Berthold had personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles.
• Women’s Golf: Senior Mary Grace McCann and first-year Sadie Cumming both shot 80 to tie for second place in a dual match with Union this past Friday.

NYC Semester Wraps Up With National Model UN Conference

To wrap up the New York City semester, St. Lawrence students participated in the National Model United Nations conference. Over five days, our students represented Sweden across ten different committees, engaging in discussions about pressing global issues.
