Alison Del Rossi.

Alison F. Del Rossi, R. Sheldon '68 and Virginia H. Johnson Professor of Economics, graduated summa cum laude from the University of Delaware, with a double major in Economics and English, and she was a member of the University's indoor and outdoor track and field teams. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to coming to SLU in Fall 1999, Alison served a year as a Junior Staff Economist at the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, and she was an assistant professor at the University of Wyoming.

She was inducted into the University of Delaware Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008 and to the Concord High School Athletics Hall of Fame (Wilmington, Delaware) in 2023. Her teaching and research interests have focused on issues of returns to education, gender and equity, and the appropriate role of government in markets and individuals’ lives.

She has served in several administrative roles over 20+ years at St. Lawrence, including Economics Department chair, Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, and Education Department Chair and Director of Graduate Studies. She began her term as Vice President of the University and Dean of Academic Affairs in July 2023.  Although she is not currently teaching, her focus is still on creating the best environment and opportunities for student learning and development as well as building a welcoming and thriving community for all faculty, staff and students.

Alison enjoys time spent with friends and family (husband and adult twin daughters and extended family). She also loves to read (mostly fiction, unrelated to economics), practice yoga, and participate in many North Country outdoor activities, including cross-country skiing, golfing, hiking, biking, camping, and walking her dog. She loves trying new things and has been learning to meditate and fly fish (its own kind of meditation).
