Understanding Radicalization from the Perspectives of Scholarship, Law Enforcement, & NGO's.

The recent killing of Charlie Kirk is another instance in a long line of acts of political violence in the United States recently. While most of the media coverage of such events is focused on understanding the motive, they often do not explain well the stressors that drive such actions or the complexities of what compels a person to commit political violence. Moreover, political officials and commentators often see these killings as an opportunity to demonize their opponents. In either case, the public is not well served by such simplistic and derogatory narratives that leave the larger social issues that drive radicalization unaddressed. In this talk, Dr. Berry discusses the radicalization processes from a non-partisan perspective to help our community understand this process better and how we might consider intervening in that process to prevent future acts of political violence.
