On April 8, 2024, the St. Lawrence University campus will experience a rare total solar eclipse as the path of totality makes its way across St. Lawrence County. To celebrate this celestial event our campus community has planned several star-studded events.

The following events are open to members of the St. Lawrence community. Please check back regularly for new event details. 

Tuesday, March 26 

Raven Steals the Sun: Native American Eclipse Stories, 7 p.m., Sykes Formal Room

Nature Up North collaborates with Perry Ground to bring Native American stories and traditions to Canton! Join us in the Sykes Formal Room for a story-filled presentation of  the beliefs, traditions, and protocols of several Native American tribes related to the Sun and Eclipse events.

Perry Ground is a Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy. Perry has been a storyteller and educator for over 30 years and enjoys working with people of all ages to teach about the history & culture of Native Peoples. He has performed at countless museums, parks, festivals, etc. in addition to working at several museums and serving as the Fredrick H. Minett Professor at RIT.

Wednesday, March 27

Tupper Lake Sky Center Showcase8 p.m., Tupper Lake Observatory

Join Nature Up North at the Tupper Lake Sky Center and Observatory for an exciting night of stargazing and learning as you tour the facilities. You'll learn \how scientists at the observatory are preparing for the total solar eclipse and, weather permitting, you'll have a chance to look through the telescopes themselves at the many wonders of the night sky. A caravan from St. Lawrence University will depart at 6:30 from the Brewer Bookstore.

Eclipse Trivia Night, 7 p.m., Pub 56

Put your our-of-this-world knowledge to the test during this trivia event. 

Monday, April 8, Total Solar Eclipse!

Total Eclipse of the Quad, 2:30–5 p.m., Richard F. Brush ’52 Quad, No classes 2:30–4 p.m.

The big day! Celebrate with music, food trucks, student run booths, and expert astronomers. There will be eclipse safety glasses, raffles for great prizes, and eclipse-related swag.
