S'mores and Stories

- Fire Pit between Noble Center and Whitman
General Event

Join the Performance and Communication Arts Department for our inaugural evening of S'mores and Stories.

The Program:

In addition to indulging in marshmallow-y campfire delicacies, we will also embrace the opportunity of our community event to indulge in the age-old practice of storytelling. After convening as one group for greetings, roastings, and some opening remarks, we will break out into story circles of 6-10 people within which you will be invited to share a 3-minute story (centered upon the theme below) and listen to the stories of others. To conclude, we’ll reconvene as one group to discuss what was shared and experienced.

The Theme: Little Victories

Over the past several years, we all faced undeniable challenges amidst a global pandemic. While it can be socially and politically necessary to dwell upon the troubles of this period, it can also be empowering to reflect upon those small moments of achievement that helped us to keep going. Can collectively sharing these stories help us to develop a deeper sense of communal solidarity while appreciating the “little victories” in our everyday lives?

Telling Your 3-Minute Story – Prompts & Tips:

Craft your story with a beginning, middle, and end, about something you have experienced or observed. No need to memorize, you can improvise or jot some key points on a notecard. Your story might be about:

  • A miniature adventure that proved to be a touch-stone event in your life.
  • An experience you had completing a project that brought you closer in touch with your craft.
  • A time when you found yourself attuned with a profound sense of hopefulness.
  • A transformational moment when you overcame a new challenge.
  • The necessary entrance of a new chapter in your life.
