Medicine Wheel Installation Workshop with Artist Kit Thomas
Timeline: Wednesday, February 11, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., and Thursday, February 12, at 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Honoring Indigenous ways of Being & Knowing: Five Akwasasne Mohawk Artist-in-Residence. Presented with funding from the SLU’s Arts Collaborative.
The workshop is structured around the Medicine Wheel, an Indigenous framework that represents the balance between the spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental aspects of life. The session blends storytelling, hands-on art-making, and dialogue, leaving behind a visual testament to shared creativity, cultural continuity, and community connection.
Participants will take part in a collaborative mixed-media art workshop using recycled bingo cards sourced from CKON 97.3 FM radio bingo games in Akwesasne. Individual pieces are then assembled into a large circular Medicine Wheel installation, emphasizing interconnectedness, shared experience, and collective storytelling.
