    Saints Winter Sports in Full Swing

    While the men's and women's cross country teams concluded the fall season with individual and team appearances at the NCAA National Championships, the winter sports season continues in full swing for the Saints. Over the weekend, men's basketball defeated SUNY Canton 68-52 and SUNY Potsdam 71-62  after beating Plattsburgh 77-65 earlier in the week.  Women's basketball topped Plattsburgh 60-58 while men's squash opened its season with a 9-0 shutout over Brown University on Sunday.     During International Education Week, students across campus gathered to eat, dance, create, and learn while celebrating the many different cultures represented at St. Lawrence. From Diwali, the Festival of Lights, dance workshops, and language lessons, to international art and sushi-making classes, there was no shortage of opportunities for students to share their cultures and learn new things about our community.     St. Lawrence Scholar Selected for Prestigious U.S. Department of State Fellowship Program

    Following a highly-competitive nationwide contest, Shiru Kimani ’22 has been selected for the U.S. Department of State Thomas Pickering Fellowship Program, an award that fully funds a two-year master’s degree program for students pursuing a degree relevant to the conduct of U.S. foreign policy.

    St. Lawrence University has received a $250,000 grant from the Fred L.     St. Lawrence Undergraduate Researchers to Observe Galaxies with Remote Telescope

    St. Lawrence students will observe galaxies using the world’s largest steerable, single-dish telescope in Green Bank, West Virginia, from their labs in Canton, N.Y., thanks to a successful observation proposal by a research team including Henry Priest Professor of Physics Aileen O’Donoghue and Haille Perkins ’22.

    Prepare for the Unexpected: Stormy Skies, Claustrophobia, and the Art of Pinhole Cameras

    Using cardboard boxes, tape, and aluminum foil, students built cameras to create small aperture to allow for exposure of chemically treated paper housed in the chamber of the box. Their unique results included a 32-pinhole lens camera used to make self-portraits; a 360-view multi-lens camera, and a floss container repurposed as a pinhole camera held in the student’s mouth during the exposure.

    Recording of 100th Candlelight Service Now Available

    For the last century, the Candlelight Service has been a cornerstone of the St. Lawrence experience and the holiday season in the North Country. The service offers a pause for reflection before final exams and marks the end of the fall semester and the approaching turn of the calendar year. The service also signals the beginning of winter and the promise of longer daylight.

    Saints Basketball Teams Top Clarkson; Winter Sports Return Dec. 29

    Women's Basketball ended the semester undefeated after dominating Clarkson, 62-38, to improve to 8-0 on the season, while Men's Basketball improved to 6-1 with a 65-59 win over the Golden Knights. Saints Athletics will continue their winter schedules on Wednesday, December 29, with Men's Hockey facing off against UMass Lowell at Appleton Arena.
